My 2 year factory warranty is up in July so I looked into an extended warrenty. I can get an additional 3 years for $1050... that's a full factory backed basically bumper to bumper coverage except wear parts......Normally I don't bother with these and this bikes been very reliable for the 27k I've put on it. The only issue is it's all electronic fly by wire efi cruise abs brakes all of that. If any of those failed I could easily spend a grand fixing them....

I'm inclined to do it but was wondering what someone else might think.... Headscratch

All that stuff has been well proven and sorted in the auto industry.  So it was an easy 'mod' for Harley.
My money?  I wouldn't do it.

yeah the more I think about it the less inclined I am, there's quite a few exclusions and stipulations as well.....probably won't bother.... Thumbsdown

I'm on my 3rd HD of the decade , never had an issue past the first 2 years, the warranty issues were both minor ( clutch cable, and IDS) .  I'd save the money.

I'm still contemplating the YES for my FJR , but will likely pass on it as well.

I wouldn't do it.  I bought a 5 year warranty for my Duc and haven't even used it 14k miles later.

If you do decide to purchase the plan, pay attention to where the money goes . . . a buddy bought one of these (for about the same amount of money) -- without realizing it, he was actually buying this coverage directly from his dealerr.

When the dealer went belly up, he was out the money altogether.

Right. Unless it's actually a MFG-based warranty, it's worthless in the grand scheme.

I'm really on the fence on these things. I never... NEVER buy them while the vehicle is under its regular warranty and if it's not available for later purchase, then it's nothing but scam bait and it's off the list.

Within the last couple of thousand miles of the factory warranty, we purchased the Ford extended warranty on the van, and I'm actually glad we did. It's got a $50 deductible on non-power train repairs and a $0 on power train repairs. We've only had to use it a few times, but it paid for itself. I do all the maintenance and non-critical repairs, so the stuff it goes to the dealer for are things that either I don't have the tools (or time) to do, or jobs that would be known big-ticket items. For instance, the door handle on the lift gate came off. That went to the dealer. Cost me $50 for a $300 mechanism replacement. With 4 kids and lots of cargo hauling, we use the lift gate a LOT, so it was worth it. The O2 sensor died... $50 for them to replace a $50 part seems silly, right? Except that it was done while my wife waited while the car was hot. I don't have car lift and I'm not crawling under the thing to replace the O2 sensor when it's hot. Ever. That was worth it.

Things like that.

On a bike... if the bike is a keeper and you can buy it at the end of the regular warranty and it's an MFG-based thing... maybe, yeah.

Thing about Harleys... they're overbuilt and understressed... very few STOCK Harley engines ever break.

That's the thing, the bike is stock with a factory oil cooler and I just bought a set of the Screaming Eagle EPA stamp touring mufflers. I put a few miles on it but stock Harleys are close to bullet proof these days......I believe I'll pass on it.

I got it last year when I got my 2010. Hopefully I'll never find out how good or bad it is.
