Servicerifle,
How do you like the road attacks on the ST? What kind of mileage are you getting out of it? (I got 4k on the stocker and have about 1k left on it) I need a new tire and that is on my real short list to get?

I love the Road Attacks. Got 6k on the first set; 5k on the last rear, but the front looks good to go.

Honestly I don't remember when I put it on. I guess I have about 4k on the rear now, and should get close to 6 I think? That's mixed riding. I keep saying "it" because I left the Metzler MZ4 on the front. That is ready to go now so I will have a new front tire (Conti RA) next time I ride and that will be the first time I have Contis front and rear.
Unless someone comes up with a magical tire that gets great grip and mileage both, I will just stick with the Conti RA...I'm pleased with it.
I would try the Avons but I'm so out of sync my tire rotation that it can't happen for half a year or so. I have a brand new Conti RA front and it needs to go on...then I'll be replacing the rear in about 2k more miles, and I seem to get about 1.8 rears for every front. At this rate I'll have to go through at least one whole rear again before I can try another brand.
As far as performance is concerned, I have not had any rear slips to speak of. I have a ridge on the left side from commuting and that freaks the crap out of me every time I lean hard, but it doesn't slip. I had them in a horrendous rainstorm a few weekends ago coming back from the Cherohala Skyway and had no problems there either, but I am very careful on the throttle in the wet. Earlier this year I took the bike to Deal's Gap and it performed awesomely. It became a little gummy like a race tire and after a single run down the Gap I touched the tire and it was very warm and my finger actually stuck to it. It didn't act like it wanted to smear, though, which is good.
I would say it's a good tire, but like all of them, once you commute on them you ruin their feel in the twisties.

Yeah, I had good success with the Conti RA rear - it wore out at about 5500 though. Because of the profile, it is fanatastic when new, but started wearing quickly towards the end of its life (SR, were you doing smokies in them thar WV hills??? ;-)).
I will probably go back to Avons, since I was getting 7k out of the rears on them. I like the profile better on the Conti though, so it is a bit of a trade off.

Question not pointed at moi, but....I too have Road Attacks on my Trumpet....3000 miles on both front & rear & rear is looking like it has another 3k miles in it.
Love 'em.
