are the factory FZ6 footpegs supposed to have some play? I see they are mounted on some rubber like bolts - or are they supposed to be hard bolted like on a sport bike?

and has anyone done the math on how much you can draw directly from the battery for heated clothing?

thanks for any info.

yet they are supposed to be rubber mounted...its how they removed some of the vibes.

As to heated clothes...the wife has been able to run her dual-star heated grips and her widder vest (pretty much on high) with the low beam running for several hours with no ill effects.  I did warn her not to run the high beam too as it'll definatly put it over budget.

oh if you *really* want to know I can go turn the grips on hi and the vest on high and take some voltage readings at various RPMs.  This should help you out.

Yes on the footpegs as mentioned above, and as far as electrical output, I think the FZ only puts out 310 watts, IIRC, and that is at >5000 rpms. I don't have a manual with me here at work (I'll have correct that.).

thanks so much for the info!!

looks like i'll be wearing batteries, or at least packing them on the passenger seat.

ive done cc before but this will be first time on a FZ6 - anyone have any specific maintenance suggestions for a 3k mile ride over 3-4 days?

im going to bring a few quarts of oil - can anyone tell me what the factory recommended oil is? or can i just mix in mobil syn for motorcycles?

I run  Mobil1 MXT. Some owners report it running cooler with it, but I'm not sure. If yours is a couple years old and/or ridden in the rain much, you may want to check your steering head bearings, as the factory lube is 'weak', and some people have reported corrosion and pitting.

04-05 had a throttle position sensor recall, syptoms are stalling, erratic idle, poor mileage. Turning it off and on if it stalls will reset it, but it will need the free replacement.
05 also had a countershaft sprocket recall on the nut and washer.

Other than that, just normal maintenance. Many riders have done CC trips with theirs, no problems. Good dependable bike.
