Would there be any interest in a second camping excursion this fall?  I'm thinking Oct 1-3 to Hocking Hills State Park.  Get there Friday after work, ride the Triple Nickel and other fine roads in the area, then take Sunday afternoon to come home.  Hopefully, I'll have my Daytona back by then with some reliability installed.   Lol  For those with extra vacation days like me, I'll plan on arriving Thursday night, securing a good site for us and figure out a fun day for Friday.

Hocking Hills SP has electric campsites @ $28 per night and mini-cabins @ $40 per night.
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/tabid/743/default.aspx

MY RESERVATIONS ARE MADE for Sept 30-Oct 3.

Attendees:

Scott

This is just a starter topic.  Times and dates can be shuffled if needed.  I'd prefer late September/early October due to my commitments at work & home for the next 4-6 weeks.  Location is flexible too, if someone else has a better suggestion.  I just wanna go ride in the Hills region again sometime this year with this group.

Ok, I'm calling it.   Bigok  I've reserved campsite #112 for Thursday evening to Sunday morning, September 30 to October 3.  Grand total is $89.25 for the whole shebang.  It's right across from the showers and has electricity.  There are six other sites directly adjoining it for anyone who is coming and can commit now.

Stay tuned.  I've got a possible weekend free on August 16-17.    Think northern Kentucky, ala Kincaid Lake State Park.  Basco and Stripes showed me some roads down there.  It's 4.5 hours from Detroit to the park.  Excellent camping facilities.

I think we can.  Will check their website and with the campground today.

From the website:

Campsites accommodate a tent or tents with combined floor space under 200 square feet, or a camper and a tent
Parking pads fit 2 cars, or a car and a camper, or up to 3 motorcycles, and vehicle passes are available at some parks for extra cars
Each site accommodates families or groups of up to 6

My tent is a grand total of 20 square feet, so that leaves 180 sf for two other tents.

Campout is just a few weeks away!

Get your gear packed and come enjoy the twisties, a campfire and a cold one.

I'll have somewhat fresh tires, new brakes and windscreen installed on the Daytona by then.  Heck, I might even have the HID headlights installed too.  Teardown starts tomorrow to get 'er ready.

I've broken in the Escort 8500 too.

Just an FYI for those thinking about coming without reservations - the campground is full up, as in NO SPACE left.

I have three tents already committed to my site: me, Shadowfax and Bender.

Who else has made the cut-off?

could be full of pace cars looking at color Crazy

That's exactly what it is.

I called the park office about a week ago to inquire on why everything seemed to be booked so late in the season and she said there are a number of Fall festivals in the area that weekend and it is one of the busiest times of the year for them.  Crazy

FWIW...the site only let's you book 2 nights in a row if the reservation touches a Fri or a Sat. If you look on the date calender there are 3 electric sites available for Fri and 1 non-electric and 1 cabin (not bad price at $40.00) available for Sat. You have to make your reservation on the phone though to book separate sites for the 2 days.

I'm not going to commit until I see what the weather looks like. I checked the Almanac for those dates for the last 10 years and it's almost 50/50 between seriously crap weather (50's/30's) and very nice weather (70's/50's).

The current forecast for Thursday, the 30th is high near 85 and a low of 35.   Crazy

Second update:  I got a reprieve from the district manager and don't have to be at Cobo on Saturday.  Campout at Loki's back on the agenda.

Updated weather guess from the swami - all weekend sunny, 70ish for highs and 40ish for lows.  Bring a heater for your tent and your favorite antifreeze for the bonfire tire kicking.  All my camping gear is packed up and ready.  Routes are loaded in GPS, cash stashed and enthusiasm bubbling.

Fair warning to all.  The road to the campground is fun.  Very squiggly and lots of blind curves.  Watch for deer also.  Had three run in front of me going up the campground road!  No cell reception in the park.  I'm in Logan having breakfast.

Jamie has to work her store until 6 and I can't find anyone to watch Aidan after school yet.  If I can't leave until 7pm I'm not thrilled about dodging deer in the woods at midnight.  I'll consider leaving uber early in the morning if I can catch up with the you late morning on your route.  As was asked a post or two ago..any idea what time you'll be heading out Saturday morning?

Honestly, it depends on when everyone gets here.  If Scott and Dave are late night arrivals, I can't see getting out of camp before 10AM.  FYI, if you come looking for us, campsite 112.  Top of the hill, turn hard left and look for the showers on the right.  I'm on the left in the pictured tent.

Today has been fun so far.  Rode down near Portsmouth, the zigzagged my way NE back to the park.

Iron Pony FTW!  I will be making a second trip there.  Got my Gerbing G3s and a balaclava to ward off the chill.  The place is huge and I had tear myself away from the clearance section.  Jackets for $29?  Boots for $44!

Home again.  Last saw Bender on his way west on I-96.  Scott dropped off at his place and I was last.  555 is a lot of fun.  The Daytona caught a little air under both wheels coming over one of the last large hills.   Bigsmile  All in all, great trip, no casualties, no scares and good company.

Ok..the second night..even though it was pouring rain out was MUCH nicer after we stopped at Wally World and I picked myself up a nice little ceramic heater like Bender's.  Since I spent the first night with my tent wedged between Sleazy's and Bender's with their heaters humming away all night while I FROZE MY ASS OFF thinking of them all toasty and comfy right next door... night two was a HUGE improvement  Bigok

Saturday the weather was great for riding the 555 until dinner time when the rain started.  Iron Pony was awesome as Tom mentioned, knowledgeable staff and a huge selection of stuff.  Picked up a nice jacket for my 7 year old son, a new controller for my vest and some awesome Gortex lined Olympia gloves for the remainder of the ride home.  I see many day trips with Sleazy in my future..let's see, baloney sandwich for lunch at G&R in Waldo then Iron Pony and home  Lol

Overall a successful and fun trip.
