cbolling you're more than welcome to join us in this ride. We're looking to go in early October. That would make 3 of us. I wouldn't want to attempt this with more than 4 riders. Our plan is to set it at 80 mph & ride gas stop to gas stop which will be approx 200 miles. We're thinking we can cover 800 miles in 12-13 hrs.
I like your route & the 14 states is a great idea. This is my first iron butt so I'm not sure on how this will all play out. The only thing I see about your route is we'd be going through some pretty big cities. Greenville, Charlotte, Charles WV, Lexington, Memphis & Atlanta. The problem I see with that is in those cities is going to be traffic & cops. Because of our work schedule, we're going to have to do this on a Fri/Sat. If we could go during the middle of the week, it'd be easier.
It's also a good many turns. With a circular route like that, its nice to stay on different roads but if you go 1 direction, spend the night & return, you've already came that way & it should cut down on your chances of missing your exit & riding the wrong direction.
I'm not saying no to your route b/c I think it'd be fun to cover 14 states. I'm just giving you my thoughts on it & what I'm thinking. What's your thoughts?
We're not dead set on IA either. We've been looking around & its 789 miles to Rock Tavern NY. That's where OCC is. Yes I watch that silly show but once you get north of Charlotte, you ride straight North on 2 different interstates. We've never been that far north up the east coast & I think NY would be a neat destination.
