The Iron Butt Rally is not a race; rather, it is the world’s most difficult scavenger hunt that takes the riders to unique “bonus” locations across the US and Canada.  There are no big sponsors, no prize money, no umbrella girls, no crew or chase vehicles; the original concept was one rider, one motorcycle and one task.  During the grueling 11 day, 11,000 mile rally, competitors battle the elements while typically riding 16+ hours a day at an average speed of 60 mph.  As the days wear on, sleep management and rest bonuses become a key component of effective route strategy.

In the 2009 Iron Butt Rally, the competition came down to four IBR veterans: Jim Owen, Jeff Earls, Eric Jewell and Chris Sakala. It wasn’t until the last leg that the winner, Jim Owen, discovered and made a strategic decision that won the rally.  Owen rode a BMW R1200RT 12,706 miles in the 11 day rally.  The highest placing female competitor was Nancy Oswald, BMW R1200GS, 11,005 miles, 20th overall.  The highest placing two-up couple’s team was Tom & Rosie Sperry, Honda GL1800 Gold Wing, 10,233 miles, 32nd.

I'm headed to the premier party in Santa Ana tomorrow night. If you watch the teaser trailer, I'm the guy in the grey 'stich kissing my wife, and you see my dual smoking RE5 pipes, too. The smoking pipes were in St. Charles.

I suspect that a few other STN-ers may appear in the movie briefly as they helped in the effort to keep the RE5 alive in St. Charles (Tony T, McGyver, MXVet, etc.)

The premiere was great! The RE5 thing got a lot of air time in the movie. And the STN folks are in the movie for a second or so (literally). The live broadcast had some sound issues at first, but they got it up and running. It shouldnbe showingnon a tape loop shortly.

Thanks for hangin' with us during our little 20-minute "technical difficulties".  We spent today editing the recorded "Live Premiere" from 1.5 hour to 1 hour.  For those of you who left before the credits were finished, look out for crazy sign off!!  Lol

I'll post tomorrow when the recorded loop begins.

Really enjoyed Hard Miles 2 - its even better than the first one.  Even my non-riding 21 year-old daughter enjoyed it.

I think it helped her understand why I like endurance rallies.

Heads up. If your copy of HM2 has a freeze issue around the time of the finish line, then contact Abracadabra. They are aware of it and will talk you through the swap process.

It should be pointed out that BMW-K actually had a supporting role in the 2009 Iron Butt Rally... he graciously stored my second bike that just barely made it to the Santa Ana checkpoint. I can't remember how long I left it in his garage, but I sure do appreciate it. I made it to the finish line on Andrew's 1150 GS. Neither are mentioned in the movie, but they helped me out immensely!
