Regarding riding in your neck of the woods though, I've heard of a dealer in NJ that sells Euro bikes (at least Triumphs) and maybe some Japanese bikes that I thought would make for a good destination - I discovered them at the IMS but I didn't get their name. I'm hoping that one you knows the shop I am referring to - I recall that it's only a short ride out of the city, maybe 30–45". Any shop that's got an interesting mix of brands and gear would be worth knowing about ... I'm up for some springtime ogling

This is probably the shop you're referring to: www.jacktrebourmotorcycles.com.  They brought Triumphs to IMS in NYC.  Nice shop.  Have only been twice, once for an MV Agusta demo day that got rained out as I waited in the parking lot for my turn.  So sad.

For riding to their shop, there aren't really any good roads between NYC and there - best off just taking 80.  However, heading either north or west from Trebour there are many excellent riding options.

Thanks nevin ... suggestion for rides in the area are appreciated. I've been to the Gap and took Old Mine Road (I think) north in rain last fall. I didn't get too far as a downed tree blocked the road - maybe I'll pick up where I left off.

Old Mine is a nice road but not a lot of fun on a Superhawk.  West from Trebours are 521 and 519, 2 of the best MC roads in the state that you follow and enjoy for some time.  517 is good and takes you up towards Harriman State Park.

One of my favorite loops in NJ is to pick up 513 (Green Pond Rd.) in Rockaway right off of 80 and ride to 23, then pick up Clinton Rd. (basically a jug handle then 1/2 a mile on 23) north; then South on 94; North on 23; South on 521 at the bottom of the hill; pick up 519 in Blairstown all the way down to Stockton; 523 back north and 78 to run back to the Holland Tunnel.

In fact, I may do this on Saturday starting around 8.  Just moved from Soulless midtown back to Jersey City this month so if you wanted to meet me right outside the Holland Tunnel early Saturday you'd be welcome to join me and maybe 1 or 2 others.

SPRING SHAKEDOWN RIDE

ASSEMBLY: Pilot Station, Interstate 78/Exit 12. (be aware of a new traffic pattern for ingress/egress)

KICKSTANDS UP: 11:00 am

ROUTE: Over the river and through the woods. No mixed surface/no water crossings. Time to get the bugs out. Dunch on the road with a quick escape route via Interstate 80 on the NJ/Pa border.

It's the first ride of the 2010 season. Post-up so Tj, Marty, and I can get a headcount.

All are welcome, but for the sake of the new comers, please review the post listed below. It may answer a lot of questions and set some boundaries.

The Vernal Equinox will occur at 1:32pm today. A time at which the sun will be directly over the equator with approximately 12 hours of both day and night depending upon where you live.

Spring has sprung!

8 days to Shakedown. (update tomorrow)
