A friend of mine & I rode this morning.  We met at daylight & rode about 200 miles & got home at lunch to get out of the heat.  The reason we wanted to ride is b/c he bought a used '09 FJR & has had it a little over a week.

About 40 miles from home we're at a gas station having a drink & snack & we're just sitting there for about 1/2 hr talking about the day's ride, his impression of his new ride & comparing the Concours to the FJR.

He tells me that he  believes his bike has been dropped before & shows me a tape line & differences in the paint between the side of his fairing  the front fairing.  He then asks me about putting the bike on the center stand & we're just looking the bike over.  I'm the one holding onto it & I never put the kickstand up.  I left it down the entire time we're looking at his bike.  I set the bike down on the kickstand & we turn to walk away.  We get about 20 feet from the bike &  Crazy the bike fell over.

The only thing we can think of is when I set the bike down on the stand, it must have rolled forward slightly & held itself up & as we were walking away, the kickstand folded up & the bike hit the ground.  Funny thing is that I believe his bike was dropped previously b/c it hit in the exact places where his paint blemishes were.

The damage to the bike was a broken LH mirror, the upper LH fairing where the mirror attaches is scratched badly & cracked & some scratches on the LH saddlebag.  The saddlebag held up great.  It didn't crack or bust & it doesn't look bad at all.  All it really needs is some touch up paint.

I was the last one to touch the bike & I feel it was my fault.  I'm going to buy him a new mirror & side fairing.  The old one could probably be sanded & painted but its cracked & it wasn't cracked before.  I've known him for a long time & we ride together pretty much daily b/c we've been coworkers for the past 17+ yrs.  I think I'm more upset about dropping it than he is.  He's always been that way though.  No need to go crazy, what's done is done.  All we can do now is to get it fixed.

I went to http://www.yamahapartshouse.net & the parts aren't too terribly expensive, but the parts description states the parts are metallic black.  Will the mirror & fairing come painted?

Is there a particular website that's good on parts prices & availability?

Would anyone happen to have a black LH mirror laying around?

I can't be the only one that's dropped a FJR & I need a little help.  Embarassment

Thanks in advance

Because the FJR coloring is year specific, my bet is that if ordered by the production date they should come colored. When I replaced some panels  on a ZX11 (I know different make) they did come panted, the correct color. Come to think of it I had a choice of what color when ordering.

Thumbsup Agree - When I ordered a new front fender from my '08 FJR it came already painted to match. This is where I buy my FJR parts: http://www.yamahasportscenter.com/fiche_select.asp

Others may have better/less expensive places but I've been happy with the service.

Edit: Just compared - Mirror is $112 at your place and $92 at mine.

Thanks for the link.  I just googled yamaha parts as soon as I got home.  He has a audiovox cruise control he just bought & we're gonna install it shortly so we'll have the panels off then anyway.  I'll definitely give your link a look through.

That's the info I was looking for.  Someone who's dealt with someone online & has good service as well as prices.

might check over at www.fjrforum.com as there may be someone parting out a bike over there.

for sure they will be able to offer suggestions as to where to buy parts.

was the bike in gear when it fell over?

I don't know.  I didn't park it.  I doubt it was b/c I think it rolled forward when I set it back down on the kickstand.  We were on a level parking lot.  When it fell over we both just looked at each other b/c it was a surreal moment.  I remember looking at it & thinking this didn't just happen.

After it was over, I told him to go push mine over so we'd be even & he said no b/c the people inside the gas station would call the cops b/c there were 2 idiots outside pushing each other's mc over.

Be thankful that it is a Japanese bike and not European because those guy's in Europe must think their painted body parts are made of solid gold and price it accordingly.

The parts are pre-painted and should be color coded by model year. The part number should give you a hint as to the color IIRC.

Given that it's October and the OP was in August, I hope the guy's bike is fixed by now.   Wink

For the record, though, the current consensus on fjrforum for cheapest parts source is

http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com

or

https://www.zanottimotor.com/shopping/pLookUp.php

Check 'em both.
