If so, how far is your commute?  How does it manage the highway with mods or without?  Can it run heated gear?  Complaints?  Just looking for some basic info thanks!

Depends on how long of a commute your talking about. I ride my SM about 30 miles most everyday (15 miles each way). I have a VFR with factory hard bags and a CB750 rigid bobber and I always seem to jump on the DRZ for around town. I have a full yosh exhaust with jet kit and airbox mod. I also installed a 16 tooth front sprocket. The only downside to these bikes is if you had to ride on the freeway for a long period of time at 70 and above your turning the motor pretty hard. IMHO it's hard to beat around town it's like riding a pit bike back and forth to work everyday. Mine has a little over 10,000 miles on it with zero issues other than it's a little hard on tires but I've probally got something to do with that.
