What weight does it take?  Stock forks/springs.  Shop manual just says Pro Honda SS-8; that doesn't help me when all the shops carry is aftermarket-brand fork oil (which is fine, I just need to know the weight to get).

I've read that SS8 is basically 10wt, but different brands have different weights even if they say the same thing. I did dome research on this a while back, and found that Mobil synthetic ATF is damn close to Showa SS8. It's a lot cheaper too, and works fine for me.

SS-8 is 10w,but keep in mind not all suspension fluid has been created equal.Just like not all 10w/40 engine oils are the same.

Honda`s own SS-55 is a better fluid (still 10w) ,or Maxima Racing Synthetic fork oil.
This area is often overlooked, people spend $$ on springs, valving, etc and then pour cheap, crappy oil into their forks.

If you're the right weight for the stock springs (around 170) you might want to consider a lighter oil. I run .95 springs in the front (I weigh about 210), and the 10 wt oil feels pretty good. I would think 10 wt with stock springs would be a little overdamped.
