I am firm in my indecision.

Yup,  I am hurting all over.

I hadn't had a good off road ride in years, so I hooked up with some local "Older" riders, figuring how hard will they go?

They went pretty hard.  Turns out many had some racing experience, and most had been off road riding for years.  Plus most of them has some sweet rides.

I did 180 miles,   of which 90 was highway, (Knobbies vibrate a lot at 75 mph) 45 was gravel roads, and the rest sand, gravel, mud, more sand, more mud, a small river,  with mud, hills with sand,  hills with mud,  single track, railbed  etc.  Crashed twice, the second time w/ the bike pinning my leg, with me on the downhill side.   .  My new boots saved me from serious injury as the weight of the bike landed on my ankle. .  XR650L's are heavy, naturally the group came back looking for me AFTER I'd levered the bike off me using a stick and my free leg.   (They wondered why I was panting so hard.)

Can't wait to do it again.

The most impressive rider, hauled his GS1200  EEK! EEK! everywhere the the KTM 530's and 690's went,  I've never seen a 21,000 bike that dirty.   Thumbsup Thumbsup

I hope to have a link to show some picture soon, as there were cameras and camcorders galore.

You're out of shape.  Yes, we know.  You're still banned from wearing that speedo at the lake.  Twofinger

Yeah, you gotta watch them.  One of the motard guys around here likes to go to the local MX track and show the 'kids' how it's done while riding his motard.  Crazy

That's cause you're riding a big-ass 650 in the dirt!!!  Nuts
(been there myself, dang those things are heavy on the foot!)

Can't wait to do it again.

Too right!!!  Go Get'em Bigok

Sounds like fun!

I haven't ridden offroad forever...well, at least not on a motorcycle.  However, I did recently complete the Seven Summits trail--nearly 40 km of ridgeline singletrack, steep switchback climbs, and rough, rock-strewn descents.  I went with my B-I-L (former triathlete) and two nephews (one a provincial-level ski racer, both are very athletic)--but to my vast relief, I was able to keep up!

Here's some pics:
