Planning a day ride for sunday and would like to head over to the Grand Rapids area or possibly Grand Haven to see Lake Michigan. Any route suggestions from you west siders  to get out there from the lapeer/metamora area and any must do roads while in the area.

Thanks for any input.

Something told me to expect answers like this from you guy's.   Crazy  Looking for something a little more specific. Yes, I can find Grand Rapids with no problem. I have heard of great riding in the area, but have yet to find it when I have been out that way.   Sad

East-west routes:
M21 isn't too bad (runs east-west just north of I-96).  Somewhat scenic.  Nice country ride.
This is a pretty nice ride:

Leonard Street to Grand Haven.  Follows the river, nice, winding country road.

Anything through the Gun Lake area- lots of nice roads out here.  I often run out here on a Sunday afternoon:

North-south runs:

This is also a nice run:

Lakeshore drive from Ottawa Beach Road in Holland up to Grand Haven.

Another nice ride heading south- lots of small township parks along the way to stop and see the lake.  As far south as you want to go:

Try M-21, then hit some of the roads around Cannonsburg Michigan. Honey Creek Road come to mind as being a nice road, with some twisties and elevation changes.

There is a nice deli/gas station in downtown Cannonsburg (can't miss it, really small town) that has good sandwiches. Bigsmile

Good advice except..... right across the street from the deli/gas station they've got great food and really good beer. Just sayin'.

Oops. I forgot to put the name of the restaurant. Honey Creek Inn  Thumbsup

Looks like heading west from Grand Blanc on Grand Blanc rd. to Lansing rd
s to Grand River rd out of Bancroft
n thru Laingsburg ( road changes to Round Lake)
continue thru Dewitt on Howe rd to Grand River rd to Charlotte Hwy
just before Portland
head south from there to M43 ( Grand Ledge Hwy)
Follow that into Hastings to connect w/ M37
which will put you into the Gun Lake area that Clay described....
**note** if you head south on M43 from Hastings a couple of miles
it'll take you by Hickory Corners & the Gilmore Museum too.....

Had a great time! Was 400 miles on the nose round trip. We started in Ortonville for breakfast at Harvey's, then ran out grange hall rd to silverlake rd into byron. Picked up grand river to round lake rd up dewitt to M-21. Hit a few roads around cannonsburg, honeycreek, 91, and a few others I cant recall off the top of my head. On to Hop Cat for a late lunch and a tasty beverage. Then down around Gun lake through hastings and vermontville and pottersville. By this time it was getting late and we were both tired and ended up slabbing it the rest of the way home. Perfect weather for the ride. Nice roads out that way. If only there were some more entertaining roads connecting the east and west sides. Was a little disappointed on how many roads had been chip sealed this year. All in all, a great day of riding. Thanks again for recommendations.  Bigok

to chip seal perfectly good roads.   Crazy

These are far from good roads. They need to be ground out and repaved.
At least the chip seal is better than the solid coating of tar snake they where using last year. Lol

Ah- round here they have been chip sealing perfectly good neighborhood roads and side streets.  I figured it was more of the same out there.
