Givi follows others in introducing a tank-ring mounted tank bag.

Not really that useful.
A standard bag has no issue with magnets that I've heard of and tends to be secure. This product would be beneficial for tanks that have insufficient metal to work with magnets, and maybe bags heavy enough that braking make them shift (my large tank bag needs a rear strap when mounted).
Since the base is not sufficiently big for a very large bag, it'd still make contact with the tank, so if you want to protect the paint, you need a tank protector anyhow.

I actually think it's a good idea and people have been asking for such mounting system.
GIVI has been preparing to introduce this product for couple years now. This is an option for people with multiple bikes, with metal and plastic tanks, with tanks that have both panels - i.e. R1 or V-strom. There are many customers who don't like the idea of a tank bag rubbing against the paint....
This should resolve that concern.
Cheers,

Cheers,
Bags-Connect (SW-Motech) has had the same style mount available for a number of years. Their set-up has an electrified option, too, so it's arguably better. Plus SW-M has more options and sizes. But it's good to see Givi get on the quick-connect boat.

I had an expensive magnetic tankbag that scratched the hell out of my tank. I'd be pleased to avoid that problem in the future.

I was really proud of of keeping my tank scratch free with a magnetic bag. A few months ago a group of tourists asked me to take their picture as I was getting off the bike. I handed the bag to my friend who then put it on the ground (Doh!) and I didn't notice before putting it back on the bike. Guess who's tank is severely scratched in 3 different places now.
The moral of this story is, a magnetic tank bag WILL eventually scratch your tank. As far as the givi bags, I'll have to see if they are more or less expensive than the bag connection ones.

Ouch, Kodiak.
But that's not the case with every magnetic tank bag. Some have metal inserts under the bag so that the magnetic tabs tuck themselves away from metal debris and things that could scratch the tank. My new Triumph bag is like that, and I appreciate it much more than my old bag!
