Just curious to see how many purchased an extended warranty & had it pay for itself. (Motorcycles only)

Only vote if you purchased more warranty than the manufacturer provides in the standard price.

Not sure about the "smartest thing I did" part, but I bought an extra 2 years for my 636 (big discount on the warranty). Got to use it last month to have the cam chain tensioner replaced under warranty. Not sure what that repair would have cost, but figure $200-$225 (2 hours labor plus $75 parts). That's close to what the warranty cost me and I've still got 1.5 years left on the warranty. If I have another issue then it was worth the money. If not,  I more or less broke even. Should I sell the bike later this summer, I'm hoping having a year of warranty left will be worth something.

I never buy them on anything. So far, I'm financially ahead. That said, I can fix a lot of things myself.

I have one on my bike- the original owner bought 48 months for $600 Bigsmile.  So I have a total of 7 years unlimited miles- I am using it now for a water pump.  I think if they are from the manufacturer and you ride a lot of miles, then they are more than worth it.  Hell, Honda will reimburse me for a rental if there is a warranty fix while on a trip.

Little known fact- If you buy one and sell the vehicle (car, moto, whatever) before the warranty runs out you may be able to cancell it and get some money refunded.  I did it with a Jeep once.  They (the dealer) didn't want to do it, but they did.

Broken parts are excuses for upgrades.

This also applies to Jeeps.

I like to buy things, mod them and make them unique. So, I will have my bike 3-4 years, and that's how long my warrenty is.

Extended warranties is a gamble. You either blow a piston or ruin somthing that is very pricy. Or you never need it and it's a waste. Ya never know
