OK, you have a day off, planned afternoon ride, then a dinner of beef curry. Which beer of the choices would go best.

I would choose a hoppy ale, assuming the beef curry was spicy. But given your choices, I'd go with a tasteless Mexican beer (Corona, Tecate). The other choices tend to be on the sweet/malty side. I do enjoy a Dos Equis or New Castle, but not sure they would be the best choice to go with a hot and spicy dish.

I'm thinking an Indian beer would be best to go with a curry dish, something like Kingfisher.

I'm with Garry; all of your choices would be overpowered by the curry.  A good IPA would be better (extra points if it's dry-hopped): try Magic Hat's Blind Faith, Dogfish Head's 60-Minute IPA (or the 90-Minute if you're a hop-head like me), or the sold-everywhere Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Yeah, +1 for Kingfisher.  Singha Thai beer is also good with really spicy food, but is pretty bland on its own.  I bet Asahi would also be good, that's a nice dry/light beer.

Actually curry powder is a mix of spices invented by the British during their rule of India to approximate Indian spices so they could have the flavor of Indian food when back in Britian.  Real Indian cooking doesn't use curry. I guess that is why I didn't get it.

That may be their variety of it but curry has been around longer than when the British occupied India.

The spicy cooking that the British started calling curry has been around, but the term curry (meaning a stew) was found in English language before the arrival of British traders on the Subcontinent of India, and may simply have been applied by them to dishes which they thought resembled the stews they were used to.

The meaning of the word has since come to be accepted as meaning Indian style curry.

The spice that the British call the curry leave, used in some Indian cooking, is actaually called kari-veppilai in India and is actually not used in most, British or otherwise, curry recipies.

My choice wasn't on the list:  Rickard's Red.  Drool

Rickard's also now makes a Honey Brown...DroolDroolDrool

It's great with robust dishes, especially spicey foods - the flavour is subtle but holds its own against strong tastes.

Curry dishes don't seem 'spicey' to me, but I do enjoy the flavor quite a bit. So my decision of the choices listed would be; which ever one is cheaper and not Mexican. All things equal, a pint of Newcastle.

I wonder if anyone here has ever had or heard of Indio, the best beer Mexico has ever offered.  Beerchug

If by 'spicy' you mean 'hot', I agree.  But by definition, curry is a spice mix and is typically quite spicy although not very 'hot'.

We tend to overspice our curry too.  Indians that I have known tended to make theirs much less hot.  My wife and I figure we've burnt out our taste buds and now have a hard time tasting anything that doesn't melt the tonsils.  Bigsmile

Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country so I wouldn't expect a lot of people there to be eating any meat curry either - of course not every Thai is a vegetarian Buddhist. And of course you can curry anything. I've seen goat, fish, and other curried animal parts in some restaurants. Curiously, I've never seen pork curry though.

Probably 30% of the population in Bangkok is ethnic Chinese  (though they have Thai names) and they sure don't have a problem eating ANY kind of meat.   So, lots of various meat curries to be found in Thailand.   Ooooooh!!  such good food there Thumbsup
