Thinking about picking up or building a set of these for use during the summer to scoop wind in behind the fairing and windshield and to help keep wind off my hands during the winter.  Anyone have any experience to tell me how well they really work?

Thanks,
Josh

Got 'em. Love 'em. They bring a nice bit of air over the tank and towards your torso. Great for cold weather too, though. You turn them outward and it's like extending your fairing several inches.

BUT -- they are not the Baker Built FJR hand wings. They're the Gold Wing hand wings. Reports on Baker's first design for the FJR had them as a little too large. They hit the mirrors when twisting them in and out like I do. Don't know if the design has been changed since then because I haven't kept up.

The brackets are Garauld's light brackets, available on fjrforum.com. The brackets were designed to hold Hella FF20s. They're plenty sturdy enough for this application. If you order from him, tell him what you're going to use them for. The horizontal piece is undrilled so you can put in your own holes where you want them.

They're attached with a few washers and nylon sleeved locknuts. They've been on for years, I've been twisting them back and forth the whole time. I don't remember ever having to tighten them up.

Here are a couple of older photos, before I swapped out the stock mirrors for the FZ1 mirrors which are wider. The Gold Wing hand wings work fine with those mirrors too.

How'd they do at keeping the wind off your hands during the winter?

I couldn't really tell you because I have the V-Strom handguards.

Yammie's OEM handguards (which I'm pretty sure aren't sold in the U.S.) go around the mirrors (pic below). Based on that, the Air Wings are probably too low to be much help there.
