Possibly relocating to Colorado and looking at someplace close to Colorado Springs, but not in Colorado Springs, and not higher than 6,000 feet.  Fountain has caught my eye.  Can anyone with experience tell me about the place?

I lived there back in the 80's when I was in the Army. Lots of military/govt. employee families in Fountain since is right next to Ft. Carson. Not a bad thing, just very military oriented.

I really liked the Black Forest area when I lived there... Sorry I ever left. Sad

Is there a specific reason for the 6000 foot elevation limit?

I live in the Springs and almost everything around here except east and south exceeds that pretty easily, so if it is a medical condition you may want to consider something else.

Fountain isn't a bad area. Housing is relatively affordable in comparison to CO Springs. As the previous poster stated there are LOTS of military as Ft. Carson is located there. Not a bad thing as I am retired military myself.

I'd suggest thinking about where you need to get to for work.  Traffic in some places here can suck during peak periods.  Limited East/West routes across C. Springs.  I-25 seems to be better since they widened it.  Fountain is pretty nice, ready access to Mark Sheffel for getting to the Springs 'the back way'.

I live in between Falcon and Black Forest.  Hwy 24 is an easy shot in the AM/PM to work.  Only come into the Springs when I have to.  Getting across town to ride into the mountains can suck traffic wise.

Mind you, depending on where you're moving from, traffic may be a breeze.  Compared to DC or Boston we have little traffic ('cept people can drive when it rains/snows worth a damn).
