Today Visordown has a story going on the new Speed Triple.  According to documents filed, the 2011 S3 will NOT be given a new 1200cc engine per Visordown.

Revamped Triumph Speed Triple for 2011

Triumph updates its urban sportster's chassis and engine for 2011

by Visordown News

The 2011 model will retain the styling of the current Speed Triple

The CARB reveals the weight and emissions of next years model

Triumph are set to reveal an updated version of their long running Speed Triple model later this year, as part of it’s 2011 range.

New documents have been filed with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to certify the models new bike emissions and weights, the document reveals a significant change to the models emissions.

The 2011 Speed Triple has the same engine capacity as its predecessor at 1050cc, however the model has more fuel going into the engine, meaning it’s been fine tuned for more performance.

The new figures show, that the bike’s combined hydrocarbons and Nitrogen Oxide levels have doubled from 0.3g/km to 0.6g/km, while the carbon monoxide is up from 4g/km to 4.5g/km.

These significant emission changes mean the new model has been given a new ‘family’ designation on the documents, which differs from the current Sprint ST and Tiger. In the past, all three machines have been certified with having the same engine.

The 2011 Speed Triple is significantly lighter than its predecessor, with a decrease in the overall weight. CARB’s documents have different means of measuring the weight of the new model. It has been measured, using “Equivalent Inertial Mass” compared to the standard “normal/dry” or “wet kerb weight”.

The weight for the current model is 330kg, with a drop to 30kg on the new model. The equivalent wet weight is 217kgs and on the new model it’s down to 197kg. [Equals 434 pounds -Rince]

With a significant decrease on the overall body weight, it appears the change lies in the engine and chassis. Preview pictures have shown the machine’s appearance is similar to the shape of the current bike, but with smaller and lighter exhausts and a revised frame.

What won’t be changing, are the styling cues of the current 1050 Speed Triple’s; two round headlights, a short, cut-off tail and a single-sided swingarm.

The new Speed Triple is likely to be released in the later part of 2011 as the CARB documents show Triumph has homologated its current Speed Triple – with identical emission and weight figures to the 2010 model, as a 2011 bike. This shows they are likely to continue manufacturing and selling the current model for at least part of 2011.

Triumph is rumoured to be revealing the revamped 2011 Speed Triple at the Milan show in November this year.

This flies against the OTHER rumor that the Speed Triple is getting a 1200cc engine for 2011:

In an earlier thread, I had pointed to the French website Moto-Station who is claiming a 1200 Speed Triple for next year.  This article was linked by the Official Triumph Facebook page, so it seems they are trying to tell us something.

Please Triumph, do not include the freaking gas tank as part of the seat.

I love my 2007- and even with a slight power bump and reduced weight savings, I don't think it's enough to make people buy the new model.  That said, it should do a good job of swaying undecided buyers to pick up a Speedy (as they should, it's a fucking excellent motorcycle)

+1  Certainly not enough to pull me away from my Speedy.  I wouldn't mind more time/effort spent on reducing weight or other changes (decent seat perhaps).  I will be curious to see what they (Triumph) does come up with when it is indeed time for an all new SIII.

Cheers,

Joe

It looks like the new Tigers aren't the only ones to receive new semi-rigid tank bag options

Oh that sucks - they can't do that to the headlights   Thumbsdown  That's what makes the Speed and Street triples unique from the rest of the bikes out there.  I   Inlove  my bug eyes.

Except for the new H-D w/ the two round bug eyes.  So Triumph had to change...

I'm willing to bet that the next Speedy has a new motor and not a tweak to the old 885-based mill.   But at this point, it could well be a new 1050 instead of 1200.  Maybe they're keeping the displacement down to let them run the revs higher, or insurance ratings lower, or both, compared to the new 1200 mill.

The reason I say this is that there is nowhere easy to lose 30 kilos on the current bike, besides the drivetrain, especially if they're keeping the SSSA.  But a new modern mill and tranny could shave off that much with ease.

Croak, you've induced visions of a new larger displacement Daytona in my head  Inlove ...which kinda goes along with what you said about the new Sprint GT catering to all the happy 955 owners.

You don't think they could've shaved 30 kilos from the current 1050 frame?  I doubt a new exhaust could account for more than a few kilos of weight savings.  Maybe they learned a lot with the new Tiger 800 frame.

New headlights are a question mark for me but otherwise awesome (just because all S3s are awesome.)

The headlights are so incredibly disappointing. I guess I know that whenever the time comes for me it'll be a no newer than a 2010 model. Well, I guess I'd have to ride them first, but those headlights are horrible.

I like it.  Usually the mfg's ruin the look with "Updates" but this one looks pretty cool.  Very true to the original design. Thumbsup

What do the buttons on the key fob do?   Headscratch  Is that for an alarm immobilizer?
