Never say never in October. While it's not likely, there is always (even in summer) a chance of snow at those elevations; particularly in that area.  I was just down that way a few weeks back, and riding at night through Gunnison area I had the heated gear going pretty good. So it's already getting colder in the area.

I think in the 10 yrs I've lived here it has snowed every year before Halloween.  2 yrs ago it snowed before school let out for fall break (2nd wk of October)...and that is in Colorado Springs.

I was in Laporte CO (small town north of Fort Collins) last night. I noticed some "flashes" to my south and thought it was some fireworks from a local football stadium - nope - lightning. It rained here a bit overnight.

Today I traveled east several miles and on the return trip I had a good view of the mountains - and the fresh white snow from last night's storm.

Tonight, about 10pm I'll be leaving Fort Collins for DeBeque CO (~50 miles east of Grand Junction) - I'm thinking there'll be snow near the road in some spots.

Just back from the Debeque CO run. Plows were out (and had done some plowing) at the Eisenhower tunnel. Loveland and Copper mountain ski runs were making snow. Headed from there to FC today - was amazed at how much snow there was (though none at the roadside).
