New leftover 07 Breva 1100's for $7000?

Sounds like a hell of a deal to me. So whats your thoughts on the price as well as the Breva 1100?

I think I am getting away from Japanese bikes after 30 years. Totally love the Triumph Tiger that I replaced the V-Strom with and now for the past year have had an eye on different Italian makes like Guzzi, Aprillia and Ducati. This Breva is a good looking naked bike.

Another question.... how come when you go to the Guzzi site and click on accessories there is nothng listed for the 1100? Maybe I am going to the wrong area there.

I have an '06.
I love the bike. I can't really find anything to complain about except the left thumb controls are a little oddly placed.
I love the power delivery, the handling may not be quite as fine as a razor down a hooker's spine, but it's pretty darned good.
I love the rider ergos.

It's a good machine.

I paid $5000 last Feb for my '06 with 7.5K on the clock and so-so life left in 4 year old OEM tires. It sat for at least a year.

It's been wonderful.   Inlove

Ok, according to this.....

http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-reviews/moto-guzzi/2009-moto-guzzi-breva-v-1100-ar56353.html

07 Breva 1100's only have a 5 speed tranny while all years before and after 07 have the 6 speed. Can anyone confirm this???
Maybe thats why they have two 07's sitting on the floor at such a discount. Its a deal breaker for me.

I would take a Concours over a FJR anyday for the very same reason.

Frankly, that's a silly reason. Bigger torque obviates the need for more gears for normal use. More gears is not always "better" when they're not all that necessary. It's got a wide, flat power band. More gears is most useful when your peak power is made at a narrow range of RPM.

Don't let that be an issue.

PS... I can't comment on the 07 Brevas having only 5 speeds. FWIW, my '06's 6th gear is pointless, luggy and totally flat below 70mph and 5th feels just fine at 90  Bigsmile

I have had both and was always looking for a 6th gear that was not there. Besides, if its so silly why did MG change it right  back the following year? Must have learned from their mistake.

public outcry...? Shrug

Is this confirmed for the 07s? It does seem silly to simply remove the 6th gear if you're going to move some other ratios around, I guess.

Hell, I sometimes wish my Yamaha had SEVENTH gear!  Lol

My Eldorado could use a sixth gear, but I guess I need to get used to how it wails at 75 mph.

This spec sheet says the '07 has a five speed, also.
http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/moto_guzzi_breva_v_1100_2007.php

And frankly, I don't fault BlueRidgeKat for pausing to reconsider. What if he (or she... sorry, I'm not sure Shrug) wants to sell it in a few years? Is the Bluebook on the '07 going to be noticeably less than other years of the same bike? And maybe Kat could find a low mileage '06 or '08 for a similar deal.

Man, if I had seen your deal on your '06, I would have jumped at it too! My friend paid $4200 for a '98 R1100 with 18,000 on it a couple years ago, so I won't share with him that he could have gotten a Guzzi for only a little more.  Wink

I know what you mean.... I had a Kawasaki that was a 5 speed and I was always pulling up on the shifter looking for a 6th gear that wasnt there. On the other hand I had an old Suzuki that "was" a 6 speed and was geared so low I wished for a 7th gear.

If a bike is geared right then yeah, it doesnt really matter how many gears its got. The thing that that bothers me about the 07 Breva is apparently they didnt get the gear ratio right for the 5 speed so they switched it back for 08. It also makes me wonder if thats why (or at least one reason why) this dealer has two new 07 Brevas on the floor.

according to the Moto Guzzi Italy web site, the 2010 models are 6 speed.

I kind of doubt they'd go from 6 speed in 2006 to a 5 speed in 2007 and then back to a 6 speed.

Guzzi doesn't have a lotta money and once they make a major change like from a 5 speed to a 6 speed tranny, they usually stick with it.

I can't confirm though  Shrug

It's not out of the realm of possibility that they had a buncha 5 speed trannys lying around and decided to use them up. Stranger things have happened at Guzzi  Bigsmile

I'm with Orson on this.

I think the 5 speed information must be a misprint or some confusion with the 750cc Breva which has a five speed gearbox.

If you go here you can download the manual for the 2007 Breva 1100 (13mb file for the USA edition) and it clearly indicates a 6 speed gearbox.  Others on some of the Guzzi-specific forums who have 07's indicate they are six-speed gearboxes.

I think you guys are right. I dont know where the article I found from "topspeed" got the information about only 07's having the 5 speed or where the spec sheet that crispiegee posted above got their info but yeah, some owners of 07's on a Guzzi forum confirm theirs are 6 speeds. Guzzi sure as hell would not have made some 07s with different trannys than others. Just another case of a misinformed press.

I'm going to make the drive and check the thing out the last week of October. Its to good of a deal not to at least take a look. Have to decide between a black or a red one.

Thanks for the info.

Regarding accessories for the Breva 1100 if you check the UK or Italian Moto Guzzi websites the Breva is listed (albeit 1200 Breva not 1100).  You can see the accessories there.  Also Hepco Becker makes stuff to fit the Breva.  Eagle Screens out of Australia makes nice windshields for it as do MPH Cycles out of Houston, Tx.

Take a look at the Breva/Norge forum at http://forum.guzzitech.com/forum/forum.html?f=188&start=0 for LOADS of Breva specific stuff.  The folks there can answer any questions you might have as well.

That good, huh? I really need to ride one of those.  Thumbsup

Chris, what other bikes have you owned, if you don't mind me asking? And have you ridden a Norge?

(I've only owned two bikes in all my riding time, unfortunately, so I'm envious of guys who have had numerous bikes.)

Don't get me wrong... most were basket cases that I've put back together or held together with wire ties and bubble gum. I could only afford newer, nicer bikes in the last 10 years or so. Lol

For reference, I'm 43 and got my first dirt bike, well used and abused, at age 12. Bought myself my first street bike right after graduating high school for $800 from a friend's dad who'd "seen the light" and become a harley snob - a KZ440 LTD.

I've owned, not necessarily in order, but I tried to keep them that way:

KZ440
'76 Goldwing - with Vetter package
GS8-something
'8-something Yamaha Special II - there was NOTHING to like about that bike.
CB550 (several)
CB750K
CB750A - full vetter kit. I toured on that bike for a long time. Great machine.  Thumbsup
One of the shaftie nighthawks
Rebel 250
Ninja ZX7 way, way back (for a short time, a friend went into the military and I kept it for a year for him, then sold it)
Rebel 450
80 Goldwing - full dressed
GPZ750
One of the standard chain nighthawks
Radian -  Inlove
'95 Magna
81 Goldwing - naked
YZF600R - I forget which year, it was black and silver, not the blue you usually see. Bought it to flip, but rode it around a few months. Nice machine.
'05 Concours - this bike taught me that I can learn to hate, from deep within my soul.  Lol
'06 Shadow Sabre
'06 FJR
'06 CBR600 F4i
'08 Street Glide
'06 CBR600 F4i ('cause one is never enough  Bigsmile )
'08 Sportster - probably close to the most viscerally enjoyable machines I've ever owned.
'05 FZ6 - I really, really ended up loving this bike. A friend totaled it.  Sad
'06 Breva
'99 Concours ('cause I didn't learn my lesson the first time  Bigsmile )

Back just before the '95 Magna, I had a Yamaha standard, early 80s vintage I4 standard that I simply can't remember a single detail about. It was the least memorable or exciting bike I've ever been on, and that's saying something considering most of my machines have been Hondas.  Lol

Wow, very envious... especially of the CB750K.

I'm two years younger than you, but waited till 31 to get a bike. (Sorry to everyone else for getting off topic here.)

My dad had his Guzzi since December of '73, so I always liked bikes, but he's a big, tall guy, so I just always figured you had to be big and tall to manage something that heavy. I was a big fan of Yamaha, and loved the XS11 when it came out, before they gave it the Smokey 'n the Bandit treatment in '80 (Midnight Special... gag). I was also a huge fan of CHiPs, although nobody in my family felt Kawasaki made a durable bike back then.

In my twenties, I was an avid bicyclist, so I was afraid that if I took up motorcycling, I'd stop riding pedal bikes and get fat.... which is what happened. I'm now 30 pounds over my ideal weight, and trying to get back down.

On the other hand, I look back with a bit of regret on the cool bikes I could have had. My pal had a VFR700 Interceptor (white), which I sat on, but it felt so heavy and ungainly. I couldn't imagine learning to ride it. (I think this was before the days of MSF courses.)

I also could have bought an '85 Yamaha Maxim 750 off a coworker for a thousand bucks (it only had 5,000 miles on it!), but when I was in college, that was most of the money I had in the bank so I didn't. Plus, I figured my parents would worry too much about me riding a motorcycle, because that's the way they are - worriers.  (God bless them, though.)

So I've had one bike for ten years, and the other for the past three months.    Although, I did have a borrowed CBR600F4i for a month and put 500 miles on (my friend Tonia's). That's a nice bike.  And my friend Tim and I sometimes swap bikes, which convinced me that I'd never own a Sportster and also convinced him (after riding my Yamaha) that he was going to have to get something more versatile and comfortable.

I need much more variety, though. Next year, I'll replace the Yamaha, even if it's with something used.

Hate to re-muddy the waters, but I just came across this article on the Breva 1100:  http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-reviews/moto-guzzi/2009-moto-guzzi-breva-v-1100-ar56353.html

Here's an excerpt, which you'll find is the third paragraph:

In 2007, the Italian builder got rid of that very precious sixth gear, a decision considered by many as being not so inspired. Only a year later, the gearbox again featured six speeds and the engine was retuned for 86 hp and 86.5 Nm, making the bike’s performance more predictable without sacrificing rider enjoyment.

That's the same incorrect article quoted earlier in this thread.
