It's coming, so be prepared. If you are still riding, what will suit after the double hip replacement?

I believe that most of the available choices are listed. So don't choose anything else.  Razz

Well if I have to vote for one of these and seeing as they all suck for someone with two new hips I'm gonna have to start elimnating them one at a time.

Honda Goldwing: If I had to ride a Wing or never ride anything for the rest of my life I would have to really think about that decision. That's how much I love Honda Goldwings. Answer: Fuck no!
A big Harley: I'd ride/own a big twin Harley anyday but seeing as I'm sportin' a couple new shnazzy hips it probably wouldn't be the best decision. Answer: Maybe.
A big Victory: Kinda like a Harley lite. Answer: I'd say no. Not emphatically but no none the less.
Suzuki Burgman: Fuck no! Answer: Not gonna catch my grown-up ass on a feckin' scotter pally.
Something with stabilisers: Hmmm.... maybe. I'd ride a Vincent w/ stabilizers. Answer: Maybe.

So I guess it's a tie between a big Harley and a Vincent w/ stabilizers.

What constitutes "old"? I'm 50. Squids think I'm an old man, but I get called "young man" by the 70, 80 and 90 years olds in my Retreads club chapter. If it's a state of mind, I'll never qualify 'cuz I intend to stay immature forever.

You'd have to be real careful where you rode that. The Vincent faithful would probably kill you if you hacked it up due to your handicapable lower unit.

For me the Goldwing question has been answered a few years ago. I rode a buddy's 1800 Wing and then a couple weeks later drove another friend's Audi TT convertible. Even though the Audi leans the wrong way in corners it really was no contest.

Apples and oranges, people buy big touring bikes when they get old enough they wan to be comfortable, then people buy Burgmans and things with stablizers when they are too old hold up Big Touring bikes.

I already own a Royal Star Venture, when I get too old to hold it up, I will get a sports car. Unless they start producing full size motorcycles like the Vespa MP3 or this. www.motorcycle-usa.com/photogallerys/Tesseract_action.jpg

And why anyone would get a Burgman is beyond me, the Yamaha V-star 650 is lower, lighter and cheaper. And it is a real motorcycle.

Because, like many "maxi-scooters"...
1) it has excellent upper AND lower wind/weather protection.
2) it has a travel trunk integrated beneath the saddle. (My Majesty holds 2 full-face helmets with room to spare)
3) it's not a cruiser.
4) it corners and handles better. (see above)
5) a "scooter" passing cruisers on the highway really seems to piss them off.  Wink
6) it IS a "real" motorcycle -- just with a slightly different chassis layout.

If you like it fine, but nothing with and automatic trans mission is a real motorcycle, except maybe a mid 70s Moto Guzzi.

and the 650 Silverado, with bags and windshield is still lower, lighter, and cheaper.

Since I had a 'Wing in my twenties, I assume that means when I'm old I'll have to get something with three or four Rs in the name just for the symmetry.

No actually that was the previous generation, but it still fits.

I've never been attracted to big heavy bikes, and given a well-aged body can't ever see myself going that direction. If anything I'd want something lighter, and easier to handle. When (if?) I get to the point where I simply can't ride anymore I'll just get a convertible sports car, and be done with it.

Not much of a list, but if I have to go with one of the choices listed, the Burgman.

Just not into doo rags and tattoos.

If you smoke a Harley on a wing, they kind of expect it.

But a Burgman?  That will probably really get to them.

Hell, given the parameters, I guess I don't fit in.

I'm a few years short of 50 yet that there Harley tourer with the so-called Bat-Wing fairing and bags looks like a good fit for the wife and me. With a few seat mods, of course. We'll be fully 'stiched with full faced hats and we will stand out as the "crotch rocketeers" with the quiet pipes. Oh, the irony.

I'll still have the Guzzi and the Bandit 12S may as well get hot-rodded to all get-out. One has to show the youngin's what it was once like.

Imagine their fascination at their first look at a main jet. A needle clip and how it was used will send them over the edge. Hopefully I'll be a few generations gone before a drain plug becomes a wondrous artifact suitable for a place at the Al Gore wing of the Smithsonian.

Maybe there's room for one of them 2WD Urals?

What constitutes "old"?.....this year I'll be 60 - in July I left Vancouver Island on the 6th and was in Unionville(east of Toronto) on the 9th...

...Aug long weekend me and Wendy hit Osoyoos and Christina Lake on the mainland......1600km in total

...Labour Day long weekend, Wendy and I hit the Evergreen Aviation Museum in Oregon to see the Spruce Goose.....just under 1500km

All done on my '06 Bandit 650 - it now has over 65000km on it, but to my defense, I've only owned it for two years and when I got it, it already had 9400km ............

Something light , simple and still capable. I ran across an older guy named Adrian Richmond who had hip replacement done. His choice of rides was a '70 BMW 600. He'd raced at the IOM on a Norton in the early to mid '70s ( and finished every time !) - after looking at his photos I couldn't imagine a guy like him on a bike with more than two wheels.

For me it would be the new Bonnie.

I AM OLD (67!) Lol and I've already made my choice TWICE!

GL1800A with Traxxion Dynamics suspension upgrades and Russel Day Long seat, etc.

(Twice because I'm buying a twin of BigBird with same mods, etc. to keep at Gail's mom's place near Santa Barbra, CA so we can ride out west without haveing to do Kansas, etc.)

It does it ALL and we can usually keep up with all but the quickest sport and sport touring bikes!

My dad is recovering from open heart surgery,  he's 83.5 yrs old,  last fall he crashed my XL650 and tore my F.G. Jacket ... he still dreams of getting a Wing.  I asked him about a trike,  his response?

"Why bother?"

If I  were to get a bike he could flat foot, he'd love to go for a ride.

Sorry, none of the above.

I owned a Goldwing for 6 months. I couldn't stand it. I was in pain and by the time I got to 300 miles I was ready to throw the helmet in the trash it hurt so much. I had a Harley Softail Classic, sort of a semi touring bike. I liked it well enough but would need to do a bunch of work to get it capable for touring. And it's probably just as much of a problem as the Goldwing.

Scooter seats are a pain. I tried riding Rita's Aprilia back and forth to work and it was pretty bad. The seat would need to be replaced.

Nah. I'm with the other poster. I'd put a sidecar on the Hayabusa and call it good.
