Is it just me or is the engine on the 1200s Bandit sorta noisy when it is cold.  Kind of a knocking noise that seems to come from the gear box area at idle when cold.  Noise disappears once the engine is warm.  I am running full synthetic in hopes that it would quiet it down, but nope.

Is this normal?

Does it go away when you (dis)engage the clutch?

Could be the cam chain, the tensioners are sometimes reluctant to go to the next tooth.  More rattley than kncking but it does go away once warm. I got tired of it and bought an APE manual tensioner. Now my 1250 is having the same issue.

Mine is the same way... aftermarket pipe fixed that up quick.  Instead of being more noisy towards the front, now the noise is in the back.   Lol

When is the last time you checked the valve clearance?

You might get a mechanics stethescope to try to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from, they can be found cheap ($5 - $10). I don't think it's normal if it is coming from the gearbox.
