And therein lies the rub.
I would never place the blame on the 'cops', I was thinking more along the lines of Chief of Police, Mayor, etc. I don't know the situation out there, I was just posing a question. Can we agree there would have been rioting whether they won or lost?

I agree with that. I also doubt that many of the rioters were hockey fans (though, hrm...are you allowed to live in Canada and not be a hockey fan?
).
I still want to congratulate the Canucks. Tough team, great series, and, heck, the whole thing was worth it for me just to see Malholtra out there and skating again.
Now that the season is officially over, I can go back to saying....GO SHARKS!!

Yes it was quite the soccer game.
Tim Thomas was the star of the series. Don Cherry said if Van won, they would have to give the Conn Smythe to Luongo. How the hell is that possible? Pulled two games, how many goals against? Thomas ended up with the lowest goals against in a final EVER!!!! (Which means Van has the lowest goals for in a final)
I guess he said that because Thomas already has a trophy.

Rioting and looting are not related to the outcome of the game but are rather a response to the attention paid to the event. As far as the outcome of the game and the series , a tremendous disappointment for Canucks fans, and a testament to the incredible team play of the Bruins and the unquantifiable advantage of the confidence inspiring play of a hot goaltender.
On a personal note my season ended last night and I had one of my best games ever
, and I was wearing my Canuck's jersey.
Late August we will all be back at it. Now let's enjoy the summer.

I've lived in Vancouver for all of my 56 years and this was the lowest point in my life in how I viewed our city.
I was very pleased tonight to watch coverage of the riot on NBC national news. The message was loud and clear : this was not normal for Vancouver and these people were there for the sole purpose of that riot. Many are not even Vancouver residents. They came prepared. Thank you NBC.
Hopefully all of those cell phone cameras came out and the images will be given to the VPD.

So they flew into town just to trash the place?

Always important to insure you have clean underwear at Canadian Hockey riots.

Actually, that picture DOESN'T tell the story. If you see the second frame of the series of pictures, the guy is trying to shield his girlfriend after she'd been knocked down by the yahoos. I think he's from Australia, and they were at the game to show him some Canadian 'traditions'... Evidently, all was well in the aftermath, although the boyfriend will forever have a somewhat 'skewed' perspective on Canadian 'traditions'!

Quote
Australian Scott Jones and his girlfriend, Alexandra Thomas of Vancouver, told the Canadian network CBC that they were not "making out" as it appeared in the already famous photograph.
Mr Jones said he was comforting his girlfriend after she was injured when they were overrun by a phalanx of riot police.
"They started charging at us, and we tried to run away, but Alex couldn't," Mr Jones said.
The police were trying to clear the street of rioters after the Vancouver Canucks lost ice hockey's Stanley Cup in the final game of the series to the Boston Bruins.
Ms Thomas said she tripped as they tried to escape.
"I'm not sure, but I was starting to get really frightened because I'd never experienced anything like that before. And it's really scary, you know? ... I was upset, and he was there to make sure that I got out okay."
Mr Jones said he went back for her and tried to calm his hysterical and upset girlfriend as they waited while the riot police passed.

I don't see why not. We do, after all, have an open multinational policy.

As a Leafs fan on the Prairies it's a very new experience being able to rub Flames/Oilers fans noses in it. I think I'll enjoy it while I still can;
The RCMP is cracking down on speeders heading into
Edmonton .
For the first offense, they give you two Edmonton Oiler tickets.
If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them.
