Didn't notice it was a Mallet until you mentioned it.  Why aren't there many in the midwest?  I'd guess they were mainly used for the tighter turns found in the mountainous regions?
Can't be many anywhere anymore.  I'd love to get a ride on one.

you nailed it! tighter turns . . . . . .

UP had one that ran backwards, cab forward, to keep the crews from suffocating in teh snow shed in the winter . . . if memory serves, the transportation museum in St Louis has one (or perhaps it's a Big Boy -- I forget).

Why do I know this stuff? I have no idea!

I rode to work today, nice day, and the Engine Ice I put in over the weekend may or may not be helping the engine stay cold...looks about the same, still gets up to 7 of 10 bars on the thermometer, but it may be hotter because I installed the heat kit which limits air flow through the fairings...

But I rode.

340 miles (round trip almost all back roads) to get some lunch at Lake of the Ozarks.  I plan on about 300 tomorrow.

I did.  I rode today.  The first 130 miles since the crash.  It still hurt, but it was a good hurt today, if you know what I mean.  Got to work on getting the back in shape for some longer distance.  That will be my winter project.  Bigok

Didn't make 300, but did 232 yesterday.  Went to Mark Twain Lake, had lunch just outside of Perry, MO.  Took the road to Wellsville (seriously), headed down to Hermann, and back 94 to Saint Charles County Missouri.

THIS time, the bridge was open Wink

I got a nice ride to and from work.    The right front brake line on the GS let go about 5 miles from home, so I nursed it back slowly imitating a Harley rider by using only the rear brake.   Crazy  I'll be ordering a set of Spieglers later this week.

Thunder and hail this morning dropping the kiddo off at day care.  I leave in 10 minutes, but I'm dubious as to the riding prospects.

Minivan drivers flinch at thunderclaps!

Riding is GOOD!
