Breakfast in Andale

Look at the detail woodwork at the peak.

Oil is a nice supplement to farm income (or perhaps the other way around).

An overcast day, but perfect riding temperature.

You use what you can for a fence post.

The mill is long gone; the millpond remains.

A tidy farm.

A milo field after cutting.

They haven't put up a parking lot...

This part of Kansas was settled by Catholic Germans living in the Volga region of Russia.

Wouldn't it be funny if they named the only diner in town " The Garden of Eatin".

Nice photos. Lots of Catholic Germans settled all over Kansas and the surrounding area. If you get a little further North and East stop in St. Benedict Kansas and visit St. Mary's Catholic Church. http://www.stmarystbenedict.org/about/history.shtml

My family were some of the first settlers there helping to establish and build the Church. My maternal Grandmother is a direct descendant of John Koch and my Grandparents farm was a short walk up the street from the Church. I grew up playing on the grounds of the Church, attending family reunions in the school cafeteria attached to the Church, and attending many a mass there. The Church there is easily one of the most beautiful Churches you will find in this country. They did an extensive restoration of the artwork and plaster in the Church and it has some of if not the only remaining examples of George Satory's amazing art work.
