It's darn near impossible to find a nice used hayabusa that hasn't been pimped. We're talking chrome rims, stretched swingarm, chrome grips, and just about every other gaudy eyesore and/or hoonage facilitator you can get. Newsflash to craigslist sellers, bragging about your bike doing a 5 minute smokeshow or a half mile wheelie does not motivate me to buy your bike. Quite the opposite.

The problem is I really like the 'busa, it can be set up as a sweet sport touring bike. I've seen a few here that are amazing, and of course member Pashnit here. I just don't get why it attracts so many douchebag owners.

Agreed. I was looking for one a couple of years ago and just completely gave up. They were either thrashed to shit or just hideously "pimped", as you put it.

It's very difficult, but not entirely impossible..... I found these locally, but did have to sort through dozens of pimped, blinged bikes to do it....

I guess that's the difference between Kansas City and California.

Also is it just me or do those two busas in the video look like they are racing at 20 MPH. Maybe they used up all their production budget on fake gold chains.

I did a quick check of my local Craigslist and found a 2004 with a customed flamed paint job and chrome frame and a nearly new 2009.

Ugh...I am too...which is why I didn't buy one.  I loved the power and smoothness, but you can't throw a rock in Chicago without hitting a blinged out, chromed up, stretched out Hayabusa.  SOOO not for me.  So I bought a ZX-14 instead, and though you SOMETIMES see a blinged out, chromed up, stretched out ZX, it's far rarer than a Hayabusa.

I wanted a 'busa  Inlove but I can't afford the insurance.  My insurance company (progressive) quoted me $3500 a year.   Crazy  The insurance was the same on a ZX-14.  I bought a Concours & my insurance is $700 a year.

I asked the guy at the Suzuki dealer how do you see so many on the road with that high of an insurance rate & he said they don't have insurance.  Do those of you who have 'busas ride without insurance?

Check with state farm. If you have a clean driving record and have your car insurance with them, they can be the best deal out there for bike insurance. I had a 2000 zx 12. Progressive quote was 1,200 a year. I was paying 300 full coverage max limits with state farm. My C-14 costs me a little over 300 now. Can't hurt to call and check.

zx14 here as well.  they're a little harder to find (at least in the midwest), but they don't grab attention (LEO or rappers) like a 'busa.  Put some risers and givi's on the back and you're good to go!  insurance is just as brutal though - mine costs 9 bills a year for a 40+ year old.

I will give them a call.  I had State Farm insurance on my cars a few yrs back but was able to get it cheaper through Travelers.  It may be time to see if they'll deal to get me back.

Best way to find a non pimped out Busa is to buy one right off the dealer floor.  That's what I did.  Probably the safest route, but I don't know if I'd do it again.  It's been the best sport-touring bike I've ever had.  Lately I've been having thoughts of going a different route and getting something a bit more on the sporty side, but don't know if that's just a passing feeling or something that's going to stick with me.  Guess I have all winter to figure it out.  We'll see what happens in the spring.

Well I ride a ZX-14, but same difference.  I pay $1000 a year for that and a GS500 together, comp/coll/uninsured/underinsured, 300/500 policy with additional $1500 rider in aftermarket accessories on the ZX, plus I have that new Progressive coverage that guarantees they will provide the amount necessary to purchase a new bike of whatever model you own instead of a prorated amount based on depreciation.   I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head.  Might be a bit more than some, but for Chicago with a ZX-14 on the coverage, that's not too bad.

Clean Busa's are out there, but I agree they are hard to find.  I owned a 2000, and a 2003.  On my 2003 i installed the Speigler Handle bars, a Corbin seat and taller wind screen.  I loved that bike, put 55,000 miles on it without a single issue.  I use to love the looks I would get from all the local posers starring at my bike wondering why the hell I would modify that bike without chroming or lowering it.

is it because you think we are referring to the vehicles physical characteristics...or perhaps because we are referring to the nature of those who purchase them?  apparently there is no ghetto/hood where you live.

I haven't seen a Busa with satellite TV dish on it yet, but I'm sure it's because I'm just not looking.

Blackbirds are good candidates for sport touring upgrades.

If you get away from large urban areas, you get away from the bling.

It's more of a big city thing than a Busa thing.   Same thing with HD.    In the mountains around Colorado, the bikes get used, so you don't screw with the functionality.  (too much)

FWIW: The Busa is the best sport touring/distance bike I've owned.
(Yes, it's better than my old Honda Blackbird)

"5 minute smokeshow or a half mile wheelie" Something one would hardly expect to see an Escalade.

Then again, it'll carry a whole lot more gear than Carl's sport bike.

I was out on my zx-14 yesterday at a moto shop, when up pulls a dude on his busa.  This sweet ride had shinko tires, mile wide chicken strips, and a chain that had probably never seen any attention.   Oh, but it was stretched and had much added ghetto bling.   As my 10yr old son would have said....  "what a poser".  I can't be sure, but it almost looked like he armor-alled his chicken strips.  They were nice and shiny.

I'm a little late but I bet you guys would like to see "Kuwaiti style pimpin'" of a 'Busa.  Behold:

Yes, those passenger pegs are "pistols":

Those look comfy:

That's fat, yo! :

I assure you, my bud and I looked ultra pimp riding up to this motorcycle event on our BMWs, complete with pipe and slippers.  We didn't quite fit in.   Wink  Of course, we were the only Westerners there, too.

You mean like this:

Here in New Orleans, there are tons of Hayabusas around!  I've never seen so many, and most have chrome and big wheels.

My 03 is stock except for a few minor mods. I stomp every fat tired one when the road twists. All show no twisties for the Escalade crowd. God forbid ya end up w those 1000's of spikes chasing ya down the road like a 600lb mace.
