Harley-Davidson reported slumping sales for the third quarter Tuesday though it more than tripled profits thanks to its financial services division and efforts to slim down in a bad economy. The Milwaukee company also said it's likely that full-year motorcycle shipments will decline 5 percent to 7 percent from last year.

Although I know a lot of people (including me) hated to see HD cut Buell from their lineup, they've made some pretty good efforts to weather the current economic doldrums.

"Tripled" profits is huge, unless they made 5 bucks last year and it's up to 15 now EEK! j/k, a little. I am always distrustful of percentages within statistics especially when the real black (red) hole for the Motor Company was all the BAD paper they wrote and carried and how they classified what a "Sold" unit was. Play the game, pressure the Unions and the Communities as well as set the stage to qualify for Stimulus help and they better be able to show stability. Sad thing to me is, if any Company should have had a very deep pocket of Rainy Day Funds it is HD. I wish them luck as we all hopefully move forward from this terrible Recession.
