The list above pretty much highlights the more popular bikes as owned and / or discussed here on STN.  Personally, I believe most of these bikes are worth the praise they receive.  However, there are a few that get a little more credit than they deserve.  What say you?

PICK ONE and discuss.

Most bikes nowadays are so good in comparison to what was sold in the 1980s that, it's really, really hard to overrate a bike by much.

I would pick either the FJR or the beemer because their riders seem the most sensitive to criticism  Bigsmile

I don't think any of those bikes are overrated. They're all excellent machines.

Thats a very true statement - I just got back into motorcycling after a 20 year layoff and bought older concours 10 which was a pretty good bike.  I just upgraded to a new bike (2010 14) and rode a bunch bikes before I settled on the 14 - the difference the new machines and the old connie is night and day. THere wasn't a bad bike in the bunch that I coinsidered.

As a V-Strom 1K owner, I voted the V-Strom. I assume you mean the 1K model rather than the 650 which I think is a better machine.

I added "none of the above" to the options.

Personally, I have ridden nearly all of the bikes on this list.  The FJR seems to be getting beat up early in the game.  I think it's a brillant machine but, as Orson noted, people may vote for it for other reasons.   Lol

For me, I have owned and spent quality time with the VFR800 and the KLR.  Given my tastes, the VFR is a good bike but lacks in power for its weight and the KLR would not hold up to the off road abuse I put it through.  So, for my riding style, these two bikes didn't work for me.  Good machines, but a bit overhyped for how they were not able to meet my expectations.

I voted VFR.  For oh so many years I read VFR voted MOTY here and MOTY there and for a long time I lusted for the old all white refrigerator model.  Back in 2003 I got a Sprint ST and listen to rag writers saying it was some kind of VFR wannabe.  Only one problem was that triple was a way better bike in every way than the VFR.  Not saying the VFR isn't an excellent bike, but it has bee waaaaaay overrated for a long time.

Now for those of you who voted for the FJR, I think Orson touched on it.  It is a fantastic bike, and IMO "the bike" isn't overrated at all.  It just attracts a strange assortment of riders. EEK!  I know I was one, until I gained my senses and went back to my triple roots.  Lol

I voted VFR, to me the earlier models were a bit better than the later V-tech models and the VFR kinda lived on its previous laurels and gained a ton of weight over the years. It was a good machine, but as an owner of two (90 And 97) it amazed me they still had electrical gremlins 7 years after my first. Thus my vote.

I voted for the FJR, but my vote is really for the Connie14/FJR.  Besides the newest Kawasaki, they're a very similar motorcycle.  They're great for high speed touring, but I wouldn't necessarily call them 'sporty,' though they're definitely 'sporty' compared to other machines in the 600+ pound range.

Anyway, they only get my vote because you hear about them all the time.  They're very common machines, and I personally like talking about more unique machines.  The FJR and C14 are quick, comfortable and reliable - why talk about it?  Lol
