OK, I like triples, and I like BMW K bikes- but I fail to see how a 525 pound 95hp bike will be very much fun... Sad

Good one!

FYI, I didn't even read it, just thought "my that's interesting".  You're right, they need to trim that down a bit.

Well, actually reading it, and going to the links on the page and reading them:

Less than 200 KG (Which is about 440 pounds)  and about 100 HP.  You may notice that the engine pictured in the story is just the new 6.  This may be coming (and it sounds like it is) but that bike there is not it.  It is just a PS based upon the K12R.

So with actual reading it drops about 100 pounds and gains 5 horsepower.  Though it is just theoretical for us right now.

It looks like someone photochopped a K1300R.  I would be surprised if they made a 800cc triple while they also have their existing 800cc twin.  Still, it's pretty intriguing to think they may adapt the new 6-cylinder for this purpose.

If this is a new onslaught against Triumph - I say go for it, BMW.

I hope they come out with a more touring oriented model.   Thumbsup

I could live with 100 hp and 440 pounds.

The bike in the picture would be awesome.

  Not everybody needs over-the-top performance.

Ridiculously sexy (except for the cannon), but weight should be around 400lbs...

Since BMW is releasing the new F800R (with the same parallel twin motor as their F800ST and F650GS) in the next couple of months.... IMO this 800 triple is pure Photoshop...

I like the idea of a higher performance middleweight "mini" K series bike.  BMW has R-twins and K-fours in their 1200-1300cc ranges.  This could relate to a middleweight BMW S-series bike even.

MV Agusta is anticipated to show their new 675cc triple engine soon in Europe.  Triumph already has their sports triple.  This could be the dawn of triple mania beyond Britain.

I'm glad to see more great choices in the medium displacement segment. Remember when LARGE displacement meant anything over 750cc? People did loaded touring on CB750's, XS750's and KZ750's. Bikes now have more horsepower for ANY displacement (probably double from the 1970's), but somehow, the manufacturers think that we need 1300cc's or more just to get on the highway with a passenger. So I view this as a positive development.

But man, leave it to BMW to make a bike that ugly!  Bigsmile

Or you could just go buy a Triumph Street Triple R now or perhaps the new Speed Triple soon.

...for probably three grand under what the BMW would cost.

On the other hand, shaft drive and paralever/telelever suspension don't come cheap. I appreciate the engineering, but it wouldn't be enough to make me choose it over a Street Trip, if I wanted a naked bike.

For those who haven't figured it out, that pic is the worst Photoshop I've seen in a while.  The frame and engine of the K16gt, the forks and gas tank from a K12R...It goes on.

Granted, I LOVE the concept, but that's just horrible.

Seeing there has been a whole shitload of winers complaining about vibration in the F8 engine and refusing to understand the fact that it is, after all, a 2cyl., I wouldn't be surprised if Beemer is working on a three. Adding one more would signifigantly smooth it out for anybody who wants to keep the revs in the 5000+ range, not really widen it past the rad width and add just a few more pounds to a marginally heavy bike anyways.

Are you saying that BMW will eventually come out with a bike that's better looking or even uglier?   Lol Bigsmile

(I do like BMW motorcycles, by the way. It's just fun to pick on them.)

The Street Triple is  Sleepy and far too electronic in its power delivery for day-to-day riding.

What's not touring-oriented about the ST?  No stereo or barcalounger for the oh-I'd-never-be-able-to-ride-my-own-bike spouse?  Headscratch

Yeah, I'd rather have something that's really peaky. Nothing like the excitement of trying to pass in the wrong gear and your bike hasn't "gotten on the cam" yet. WHEEEEEEEE!
