It was definitely chilly this morning. I actually dug out a pair of lined gloves. I should have zipped the liner in to my jacket but I didn't think about it until I was on the road. I'll have to remember to do that tonight when I get home.

I'm starting to rethink my winter gear. I might try electrics but I'm not sure if the SV's charging system is up to the task and I'm not planning on buying a new bike until next year.

There are a number of battery-powered heated jackets/vests available.  By battery-powered, I mean a battery separate from your bike.

My Street Triple handles heated grips and a heated vest ok (hooked straight to the battery via fuses).  I don't know about SV's...

I waited too long to buy heated gear.  It's makes all the difference.

Stuff's amazing isn't it?? I think I'm going to try a pinlock this year. I always just cracked my helmet open a bit, but found it's soooooomuch warmer with the shield fully closed...
but can't deal with the fogging. Even my no-fog Scorp shield was great but the moisture would condense on the lower edge of the shield and drip water all over the place.

Gloves will work.

If you want, we can wire in the plug, hook up my vest and gloves and run tests on voltage, etc.

You have to remember, your bike will AT LEAST run your high beam, so if it runs both low and high at the same time, leaving the high beam off means you have at least 55 watts available.  Most bikes have some overhead, so you can easily run a jacket on full bore.  I am betting you can run a jacket and gloves with a heat troller which cycles the power of the gear without any issue so long as you do not run both your low and high beams at the same time.

If I can run my jacket on the KLR's system, I think that your SV is up to the task  Lol  Granted, my commute is short and I don't generally turn anything on until I've hit the highway. But I use a troller and use it sparingly. Its just enough to keep me comfy  Thumbsup

I've decided that the pants need their liners, however - I had chilly legs this morning  Embarassment

Yes I forgot to wear my balaclava today and my chin required defrosting after getting to work.

I will have to start wearing my electric vest now.

You have to keep the legs warm too. My gerbings jacket liner was putting out plenty of heat but I lost so much through the legs that my core still got old last year.  I put the liner in my Olympia Phantom 1 piece suit for the first time and I went out in the low 40s this past weekend without any heated gear. The 1 piece suit definitely makes a difference.  Seeing frozen precip. hit my visor made me miss summer though. Another couple months and my ride will be a two stroke sled.

I was warm and dry inside my gear

My Fieldsheer pants I bought in CA leaked like a sieve and the company replaced them for me (yay!). Today was the first real test of how they did. Of course, I also had the liner in there, so maybe they leaked like a sieve too but I just didn't notice....

I need to do something about fogging - and not just the visor. I get fog (and sometimes rain) on my glasses too, which is annoying    eh - makes for an interesting commute!

I use Cat Crap on ski goggles and sun glasses. It has to be reapplied pretty frequently but it only take a few seconds on smaller surfaces.

For the visor I use and swear by a pinlock, for my glasses, yeah it is a PITA.  Cat crap works, just just need to remember to reapply it.

For the record, my Firstgear jacket and pants are dry too!

I used to wear contacts all through high school/college and then one year - ugh, no longer comfortable. I haven't cared enough to look into a new kind, but maybe some day  Cool

Back to cold weather: I wrote up a little warm toe gear review here

I wear contacts just so it's one less layer of fog in this weather. I don't enjoy them at work so much because of the light/environment. They are not noticable otherwise.
