I don't know much about this bike, I just did some quick research. It appears to be generally liked, and one source puts it's key figures at 125hp 70lbs torque and ~479lbs ready to ride. These are all right in the ball park for the Speed Triple and Z1000. So I guess it's in the running, but I hate those wheels.
I think it looks boring compared to both the Kawi and the Triumph.

Get your asses out there and buy it.
People have been whining for years that Honda has never had a real entrant into this market space.
Now they do.
Time to shut up and put up.

Not true, they had one in that market for years with the 919 - that was available up till 2007 I believe. It was only the last 3 years that Honda has been out of this market. This new model has been out in Europe since 2008.
If Honda had brought this to the US then, I may have bought it instead of my Street Triple R. I do not see the sense in buying this bike to replace my triple. But I hope others buy it.

Well, yeah... I wasn't speaking to you in particular.
I'm mainly talking to all the "If they would just ... then i would buy..." guys and the "I'll get one used in 3-4 years" guys.
The 919 was a decent bike - underrated, even - but I suspect this one is a bit more on the edge.

Not to mention the new Tuono V4, Dorsoduro 1200, BMW F800R, and Yamaha FZ8. It's going to be a great year to go naked.
I realize Bubbles' comment wasn't directed to me, but I have been wanting Honda to bring this bike over since it came out.

The ONLY reason i'd consider this bike is because I just happened to pick up a 919 for cheap and discovered it's actually quite a nice bike. So, by default, I would give consideration to the new CB1000R based on that alone.
Otherwise I think it looks boring and did I mention I HATE the WHEELS!

I think this 3 year old Honda is great. No, seriously. Totally dug them when I saw them in Europe. There they came in that sweet red metallic colour that the 919 was offered in.
Interesting that the smaller marques like Ducati and BMW offer ABS on their version of these bikes, while the mainstream mfgs do not. (at least not in the US).
Either way, this Honda is bad ass. Butt for it to succeed it needs to be priced like the KAwi Z1000. I'm a bit worried about the 'limited availability' part. Butt that could just be due to the economy and projected demand.
Me likey.

I like it a lot. I hope:
1-it's not let down by a mundane suspension.
2-the motor was not softened to the point of being bland.
3- the msrp isn't over $9999.
I guess i'm asking that it not be a Honda.
Related thought: C'mon Yamaha-give me a naked FZ1, or should I be forced to buy your slow-assed FZ8 to get an actual naked bike?

My guess is that the difference in exhaust causes it.
Also, does anyone else see the headlight assembly as a strangely anthropomorphic? Sort of Halo ODST or something?

123 hp at the crank = 110 rwhp? Gonna get smoked by the Triumph Sp3 and Kawi Z1000.
http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/honda/2010-honda-cb1000r-review-89355.html
But I like the way this Honda looks more than either of them, and for road use if it makes more powah in the 3-7K range, that's all I care about.
Still annoyed US not offered ABS brakes, Euro has had it since 2008 with this bike.

Wow, I was just thinking about this bike the other day but thought Honda would bring in the cbf1000 or maybe the cb1300 before this one......This will be a real world replacement for the '06 cbr1000rr I had a couple of years back. I'm really liking this one and hope to have it by April for my birthday.

I predict that this bike will be a lousy seller in the US- just like the 919 and the CB1000f"Big One." I'm betting it'll be more expensive than the Z1000 too. Local Kaw/Suzuki dealer is still sitting on his pearl white/orange/black Z1000 since last spring- and he's sold SIX B-Kings in the past. The rear wheel and exhaust on the CB are really unattractive to my eyes- unlike say, an MV Agusta Brutale.

I agree. My local Kawi dealer never even recieved a Z1000 and the next closest still has a Z1000 on the showroom floor since last spring and that was the only one they recieved. The CB1000R isn't exactly eye appealing and the price probably won't reflect that. I hope I'm wrong but we'll see.

+1. unfortunatley, I agree.
It's the same old argument from me. Give me a naked sport bike with quality suspension. Enough of these soft, standard Japanese nakeds. Triumph nailed it (Twice with the Street Triple) and Ducati got it right from day 1 with the Monster. WTF is wrong with the Japanese mfg's?

But finally, Honda may be waking up. Now we just have to wait for the price.....

Question for those folks waiting on pricing info: How much is too much for this bike? The Kawasaki everyone touts as the 2nd coming is 11k. Like someone posted earlier, the FZ-1 has been around for a while and is selling at a much lower price than both of these machines. Luggage and lower fairing are available for the fz-1 so I would think those that are soo concerned over price would at least give this one a look.

For me too much would be $12K.
But I really want it to be $10K. Especially since it is a 3 year old model.
Fat chance though, given that the Deaville 700 is $10K. And that's essentially been in production for years.

MSRP on the FZ1 is 10,490. That's $500 less than the Ninja 1000 (can you even get that lower fairing for the FZ1 for less than that?) not exactly what I'd call 'much lower'.
Now, this is where you'll say, "yeah but there's a leftover FZ1 for sale for 8 grand at..."
And I'll say "who cares, when you are talking new bikes, you have to compare MSRP, until they are actually at dealers you'd buy from, then you can compare actual price. And there's always going to be used/leftover bikes for cheaper than a new bike..."

And then there is the scenario where Honda officially lowered the
MSRP
of the '07 vfr's to ~7900.00 and dealers had '08's sitting on the floor for ~10,500 msrp. I just can't shop for a new bike with rigid notions of comparing msrp only on same year bikes. The new economic reality means to me that I've got to take in account all the availabilities of the bike I want. You'll see this priciple in action when Kawi tries to unload those unsold '11 Ninja's.

Nahhh.... Unlike Honda Kawi will actually adjust their prices if they have leftover models.

So I was all set on the FZ1 until the dealers pulled out the CB1000R and the Ninja 1000 on me.
I really like that CB, but as an ST bike, can you get a windshield on it?
Will I be able to securely attach my soft saddle bags to that svelte tail?

Anyone really know if ABS is available? Honda's website mentions nothing... If it does come with ABS I'll probably move it up a few notches on my list of "WANT" bikes.
I still don't like the wheels, but the package as a whole is growing on me. The pic of the white one with a Givi top rack also helped move it up a slot or two.
Most of my bike wishing is academic at this point. My divorce may destroy my purchasing power for a few years... Stupid women. Frankly I'd give up all my bikes just to save my marriage, but it's out of my control.

Really? I believe I've read a ton of interest in the replies in this thread. This is a sport-touring forum. For this bike to have gained the interest it has I'd say is pretty positive. It's not like the Tiger 800 which was practically built for this site.
Compare the initial response of the CB1000R to the VFR1200 and tell me which one people are less interested in.

Hmm, the reason I made the comment I did, is because it sort of seems like everyone has Ninja 1000 fever. Plus, I know I'm pretty anxious about the new Speed Triple as well. Just sort of seemed like STNers haven't quite been so aggressively supportive of the CB...

I'd say that's because:
a) The Ninja 1000 is perfect for SPORT-touring riders
b) The Speed Triple is Triumph's most important bike, it hasn't seen a complete overhaul in 5 years and Triumph is on a roll.
c) The CB1000R is still a Honda. Honda has had a series of duds lately, although the CB doesn't seem like one. Honda's just don't capture the passionate aspect of riding that Triumph seems to have nailed down. Hondas are known for reliability, refinement to the point of lack of character.

I love these, but i'm not really sure what i would use it for. I don't jet around town and i love having a fairing bike(s) and a windscreen.
Maybe i need to ride one.

CB1000R for 2012

The CB1000R is a standard model for 2012 - ie, no "limited availability" requiring special orders to get one. My local dealer participated in the recent Honda Open House event. They had a new 2012 CB1000R there in a crate, with a dramatic reveal (that I missed seeing). I stopped back in to get a better look at it the following day.
There are very few 2011 first-year models around, but there was one that I have seen locally. The new year model has a matte finish unlike the previous model - before it was "Pearl Black" now it is "Matte Gray Metallic." Personally I really like the new matte finish quite a bit (my Triumph is matte as well).
All this hoopla really made me look hard at this Honda. Overall I really like what I see. For power, handling, and raw good looks, this Honda seems to hit my target. My main reservations revolve around costs: possibly higher servicing costs, likely double the insurance, and equal or less efficient fuel mileage than my current ride.
