CB1000R in the US!

Anyone really know if ABS is available?  Honda's website mentions nothing...  If it does come with ABS I'll probably move it up a few notches on my list of "WANT" bikes.  

I still don't like the wheels, but the package as a whole is growing on me.  The pic of the white one with a Givi top rack also helped move it up a slot or two.

Most of my bike wishing is academic at this point.  My divorce may destroy my purchasing power for a few years...  Stupid women.  Frankly I'd give up all my bikes just to save my marriage, but it's out of my control.

Really? I believe I've read a ton of interest in the replies in this thread. This is a sport-touring forum. For this bike to have gained the interest it has I'd say is pretty positive. It's not like the Tiger 800 which was practically built for this site.

Compare the initial response of the CB1000R to the VFR1200 and tell me which one people are less interested in.

Price is right, bike is sweet.  Hopefully by the time it shows up it will have an ABS brake option, like the CBR250.

Hmm, the reason I made the comment I did, is because it sort of seems like everyone has Ninja 1000 fever.  Plus, I know I'm pretty anxious about the new Speed Triple as well.  Just sort of seemed like STNers haven't quite been so aggressively supportive of the CB...

I'd say that's because:

a) The Ninja 1000 is perfect for SPORT-touring riders
b) The Speed Triple is Triumph's most important bike, it hasn't seen a complete overhaul in 5 years and Triumph is on a roll.
c) The CB1000R is still a Honda. Honda has had a series of duds lately, although the CB doesn't seem like one. Honda's just don't capture the passionate aspect of riding that Triumph seems to have nailed down. Hondas are known for reliability, refinement to the point of lack of character.

I love these, but i'm not really sure what i would use it for.  I don't jet around town and i love having a fairing bike(s) and a windscreen.  

Maybe i need to ride one.

The CB1000R is a standard model for 2012 - ie, no "limited availability" requiring special orders to get one.  My local dealer participated in the recent Honda Open House event.  They had a new 2012 CB1000R there in a crate, with a dramatic reveal (that I missed seeing).  I stopped back in to get a better look at it the following day.  

There are very few 2011 first-year models around, but there was one that I have seen locally.  The new year model has a matte finish unlike the previous model - before it was "Pearl Black" now it is "Matte Gray Metallic."  Personally I really like the new matte finish quite a bit (my Triumph is matte as well).  

All this hoopla really made me look hard at this Honda.  Overall I really like what I see.  For power, handling, and raw good looks, this Honda seems to hit my target.  My main reservations revolve around costs: possibly higher servicing costs, likely double the insurance, and equal or less efficient fuel mileage than my current ride.
