It isn't likely that Coats was ever very large, but it was evidently fairly prosperous during and just after the first world war (judging by the dates on the buildings).

Heading west towards Coats.  At least the road into town is paved (for now).

Between the water tower and the grain elevator--that's Coats.

The view south on Main Street.

The post office occupies a corner of the old Ford dealership.

Two gas stations in town--both long closed.

The greeters came out to see me.

Methodist on the left; Baptist on the right--both date from around 1920.

That's the bank on the right.

At some point, the ties will deteriorate beyond their ability to hold the rails; but, for now, I guess they're good enough.

The main road south out of town.

Back on the road, running east of Coats.

You need to bring that little Daytona to a TrackAddix event sometime and represent Moto Guzzi. Ducati Omaha bought them out last year and are running track days at Hastings and Mid-America. I've seen plenty of Euro bikes at Hallett, too.

Fantastic as usual Daniel.  Thumbsup

Just curious if the locals chat you up about local history?

sometimes, yes.  But, in Coats, I saw just one person, and she was pushnig a stroller a couple blocks away  (perhaps not an easy thing to do when the streets are not paved)

Cotton in Kansas... That is a new one on me.

I have seen plenty of beef, more than a little pork, a bunch of chickens, corn, and of course wheat in Kansas. I know a number of other grains are common as well but I have not before seen cotton outside the farms West Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri. I know there is probably someone in about every state growing it but it is not something I have witnessed before. Pretty cool really.

Anyway great photos as usual. Thanks for sharing.
