Just put a deposit down - it's a lightly used demo at a good price. The GS I rented and rode around Utah last month impressed me enough to conclude it'd make a suitable replacement for both my Weestrom (
natch
), my FZ1, and even my relatively new GL1800. They'll all be going up for sale later in the month.
Keeping my SV650 though. That's just cheap fun.

I'm pretty confident you'll enjoy it.
I realize you've already put money down, but have you been watching the "flea market" on ADV? Lots of well set up bikes for good prices over there.

Congratulations!
I've been doing a fair bit of research on these bikes myself, and think there may be one in my future as well.

Yeah, of the GS' listed there were two I considered. Overall though, warranty and service-wise I feel this deal works best for me.

And a lot of them are overpriced because it's ADVrider and everyone in the flea market is looking for those bikes.
I've been watching pretty closely for the past few weeks and am not impressed with some of the asking prices. Actual behind-the-scenes sale prices may be more reasonable, which probably explains why some bikes go fast and others languish. But I admit that I won't even make offers on bikes with too-high asks, whereas someone who does might luck out and score a deal.

I hear ya. On the service though, I gotta tell ya, you will save BIG $$$ doing the service yourself. It's really easy, no matter what it is, on the GS (ok, other than a clutch...).

Excellent bikes, I have around 2k on my month old GS and love it, probably the best all-rounder I've owned. I too would keep the FZ though, I sold my long running 1200S Bandit awile back and really miss it.

I enjoy my '09 GSA, except for its schizphrenic fuel gauge. This is my second GS and first Adventure. I really missed my '04 GS as it was one of two bikes I've ever regretted selling; '02 Viffer was the other.

Bought an 08 GS yesterday with 5000 miles. It's time to get rid of the FJR or not. Ride safe!

I think '08 is when they went to the 720 watt alternator, if that helps you in your quandry. Oh, and 2010 GS's get a real fuel gauge (not the GSA, which still has the strip.)

2010 the GS's go to the quasi-shim style adjustment for the valves; '09 and earlier were screw-nut adjusters, which are more DIY friendly.
Lightly used and adequately cared for normally trumps new in my book.

Well, the local '07 GS got sold already, so I'm back to the original deal.
Is there a difference in valve service intervals between the 2010 and earlier models?

I'm not sure of the interval period, but the method has changed. The new Cam Heads have a bit called "semi-sphere" that acts like a shim. It gets swapped for an appropriate sized one when you do the valve adjustment.
That is one advantage to the older oil/hex heads. No extra trips to the dealer. I just need to get better on the finesse and feel for the technique.

Nope, still 6,000 mile service intervals for the valves. Don't always need adjusting, but do need checking.

Mine were good at the 600 and the 6000, I am still a little shy of the 12000, but I'll let you know.

First check is at 6k, after that they are at 12k. Adjustment isn't bad either, according to the guys on ADV.

This makes the 09 and older bikes more appealing. Much more appealing.
Usually going to shims results in longer service intervals.
Even the Duc MS12 is now at 15K miles between checks.

Mebbe, but most likely not on a 2010 R1200GS Adventure. Working out something else in the GS world.
