...by the Ducati Multistrada 1200S.

Previously, the longest stopping distance for an ABS equipped motorcycle was the 2006 FJR, with a distance of 144 feet from 60 mph.

But, on p. 13 of the Sept. 2010 issue, they report that the ABS Ducati Multistrada 1200S' best stop from 60 mph was 158 feet, with some stops taking even longer... as much as 164 feet.

And, no, it wasn't a fluke, they repeated the test on another Ducati Multistrada 1200S.

Well done, Ducati.   Thumbsup

Just curious, how do they both do with ABS turned off?

That the ABS sucks isn't news.  I hadn't seen it compared to any other sucky ABS setups though, so I guess that was new. Smile

I have a "new" map on my bike that is supposed to fix the poor fueling from 3k-4k, but I'm not sure if it's the one they're talking about below. I'll see if I can get details next time I bring it to the dealer for something.  No problems stopping in the dry yet -- brakes seem typically Brembo good.

http://www.ducatinewstoday.com/2010/10/ducati-refines-2011-multistrada-1200/

"2011 models will feature updated fuel mapping and ABS electronics. Forum posts on the web have been quick to criticize a rough running glitch at low revs and also long stopping distances in the dry, thanks to an overly aggressive ABS system. New pannier latches for better sealing will also be a welcome addition. A new center stand for less intrusion when riding means you can go that much harder before it grounds!

In a move likely to please all current Multistrada 1200 owners, the software and bag latches will be offered to MY2010 owners as a no-cost upgrade."

Shrug Then don't buy a #%#^%$ %^^&* Multistrada, or ride with the ABS off, or buy an older YZF600R....who cares?  Sometimes I wonder if the STN moto should be "The site for rehashing the same old crap every other day in case you missed it".

It's a Ducati. Brilliant in many ways, a PITA in others. Anyone buying ANY Ducati and not expecting to have some  issues didn't do due diligence.

As for your ABS crusade... I guess everyone needs a hobby.   Lol

Does MCN have any data on how the ABS brakes on the Harleys work?  Those Brembos are meant to be pretty good.

I sure wish Yamaha would do that for my FJR.

There is a service bulletin for that year/model to replace the ECU.

I will look into that. Thanks.

Wasn't that the recall to correct the situation where after coast down from high elevations, the throttle would surge? That didn't address the brakes... correct me if I'm wrong.

The adapted Nissin stuff stuff (2006) was OK.  The proprietary ABS are their current bikes works well.
