On Nov. 14 Eddie Krawiec on a Screaming Eagle/Vance&Hines Harley Davidson set a new national record for Pro Stock motorcycles by going 196.9 MPH in 6.8 seconds (thats quarter mile). That was the final round so he won the race also.

That's very quick  EEK!

I was thinking about motorbike drag racers on the weekend.  I used to love to read about the various top fuel bikes and during the Terry Vance/Byron Hines era of pro stock.  The bikes just went faster and faster.

My all time favourite was Russ Collin's Sorcerer ...  EEK!  600 hp dual engined honda beast.

He touched on 200 mph but his et was in the low 7's as I recall.  Used to have a Cycle Guide with the sorcerer on the cover ....I think I thumbed that mag to death over the years.... hmmm ... wonder if I can buy a new copy on the net ??

Edit ... yep ... $19.95 for that copy ....  Headscratch  ...

Kudo's to Vance and Hines ... they do their engineering homework and then rip it on the track.

Notice Andrew and Eddie are the only V-Rod based bikes? All other V-Twins are Buells. The baddest of the bad is Larry McBride aka Spiderman. He has run over 250 in the quarter.

Just what model Harley is that?
Or should I ask, is there even one Harley Davidson part on that bike?
I would imagine that this "Harley" contains about as many Harley parts as any NASCAR race car contains Ford, Chevy or Toyota parts.
It's fast, no doubt, and the rider is skilled, but that is no Harley.

Yeah, there's virtually no stock parts on these bikes.

Like Nascar being the "stock cars" racing of yesteryear.

There is a precedent for few cylinders and lower-revving machines to be bigger displacement.

Engine configuration should be part of the class designations in racing, maybe? I dunno.

That's a picture of an engine Don Shumacher Racing submitted to the NHRA for approval. They wouldn't certify it. Only H-D is allowed to build one offs to be run in ProStock and thats only because H-D bought off the NHRA...ever notice it's the official bike of the NHRA? How much do you think that cost H-D?
Ever stop to wonder why the rules state that the motors and parts must be for sale and available to all and yet, George Bryce of Star Racing fame has been trying to buy and still is trying to buy a V&H/H-D motor and can't.
Did you stop to wonder why V&H was allowed the 4 valve head, a rule that was passed overnight, a head Buell subsequently wasn't allowed to use. That's another twin with the same displacement...
Have you wondered about the constantly changing minimum weights?
The rules are regularly changed to enhance V&H's entry, as soon as someone else gets close...Wait till you see PSM's next year...Only time will tell if H-D has the money for another season of V&H Racing and NHRA...
