What would you do?
The 1198 is like new, under warranty.. Standard model, not S.

With the 1198 you could forgo the expense and discomfort of penis enlargement.

I would probably go 1198 if the price is right. More torque than the 848 and someone else hopefully took the big depreciation hit from new. It won't devalue as much as the 848 will in a couple years.

whichever costs less to insure...if there's even a difference between the two.
if no difference, 1198.

1198 is a little bit cheaper than the 848.
Colour is white w/ black frame and wheels.
848 Evo that drives me nuts is the white one with red frame/wheels.

If 90% of your riding will be on the street, the 848
EVO...
I had a chance to demo a 2010 848 a few weeks ago.
IMO - enough power for the street for anyone. The fantastic looking (white red wheel) 848
evo
is a bonus!

I've not ridden the 1198, but the regular 848 is an absolute hoot. I'd imagine the EVO to be even more so. For me it would probably come down to aesthetics, all other costs being fairly equal.

No wrong answer here.
If I were just considering the riding experience, I'd go with the 848 EVO. If I were also considering things like depreciation & resale value, I'd go with the bigger Duc.

If I were just considering the riding experience, I'd go with the 848 EVO.
I have an 848, '09, non-EVO. Rode it today for a few hours. I can't imagine you would need more on the street unless you need extreme straight-line acceleration that the 1198 must surely offer. 5-6K, is the sweet spot in any gear, between 7 & 8k it builds rapidly and above 8 grand things really start to come alive and there is an enormous rush. After that, you're holding on and things are moving mighty quick. I think on the street you'd be more than happy with the 848. EVO, even more so.
The 848 is deceptively fast. Typical Ducati, it does not like to be below 4 grand in any scenario. Third gear cruising at 5k rpms, the sweet spot, your already up to 70mph and you get to that speed very quickly.. I rarely get out of 4th gear on back roads.
Also, I'm a bigger guy and the bike is fairly comfortable. I considered messing with the bars but my body has adjusted. You'll love it.....
I too flirted with getting an 1198 but I think it is overkill, unless those digits on the fairing matter to you (not that there's anything wrong with that). IMO, with an 1198 you would be unlikely to retain your drivers license for very long. Just my .02...

I looked at both..
My leg is still messed up so right now I'm passing time but..
The 1198 is metallic white w/ clear coat and black frame. The 848 is matte metallic white with red frame. IMO the EVO actually looks much better in photos than in real life. The red frame and wheels with the white just looks gaudy.
Also, the paint process is exactly the same as the matte black, so it should be $1K cheaper like the matte black.
If I was going to pull the trigger it would be the 1198 because:
1/ Still has 20 months of warranty left
2/ Looks like new
3/ 350 miles only!
4/ W/ tax and set up taken into account, it will be about $1.5K cheaper than the 848
5/ It has already taken the depreciation hit.
Huge minus for both bikes.. I have no idea how my gf can sit on the back for more than 5 minutes...

Even w/ money no issue - no way...
She's not good w/ a manual transmission and traffic. Away from traffic, no problem. Seeing we live in LA...

+1
Depreciation on Ducati superbikes is considerable in terms of absolute dollar amounts, as I have observed firsthand.
The 1198 is going to feel every bit a beast on the street (helped in no small part by the aggressive riding position). So, if you're going to suffer being squashed into the tank all the time (or anytime you're not on the throttle) on either the 848 or 1198, why not reap the rewards of the unlimited torque afforded by an 1198?
