Anyone have any thoughts on how K1300GT values will be effected by the new 1600GT?

It's hard for me to get a read because the new 1600GT is really a different bike in alot of respects. It's significantly heavier, and thus will probably not be as speedy as the 13GT, and it is also going to be by all estimates pricer than the 13GT.

Thoughts?

Internet rumor is that the GT1600 announcement killed GT1300 sales

I would guess that it will depend on the 1600GT's pricing.  If the 1600's price is anywhere close to the 1300, then the 1300 will look like old technology, if the 1600 is 5-10K higher than the 1300 may look like a real bargain.

The 1300GT was touted as a significant improvement over the 1200GT, what happened to the 1200's value when the 1300 was introduced?

Anytime a manufacturer announces a new model with out specifics or shipment date will slow related (if not competitive) products until it is actually seen and ridden.

That being said, my guess is that the K1600 in both of it's forms is really focused at the Gold Wing Market and that the K12/13 offering will just quietly go away due to too small of a niche for BMW.  As much as I like my K bikes, the vast majority of BMW sport tourers sold are RT's.  IMHO

At least the K1600 is not quite as separated at birth as the current LT and K1300S are. Lol  I agree in part in that the 1600 is more likely (for now) to push the 1300GT to a live/die choice than the S and lovely R that the rest of the world can still buy. Engine size difference is minimal, but in current form the porcine 1600 makes the none too svelte 1300 look like a supermotard Crazy The evolution from 4 to all 6 cyl motors makes sense and cents, but they obviously own them both and could easily support them just as they do with the other bike and car engines. JMO,,At some point they are all (BMW, GW, etc.) getting too big and heavy to be enjoyed as motorcycles. There is some cool tech, but I hope BMW doesn't try to be a Honda and certainly not at the cost of the experience to be enjoyed on the current bikes. BTW, love my R, but apples and oranges to a K in any variation (different, not better or worse). Some exciting bikes, just need proper quality control and long term support from the Mother Ship to make them the industry standard they should be. Soooo much power, can't wait to see them hit the shops.

Cheers

A dealer can tell you how much a previous generation bikes is worth.

There's a threshold where new generation intros no longer affect older bikes. My '94 K1100RS is immune to new gen intros.

I'm not sure about values nor cost - but the 1300 is being replaced by the 1600. And the is a "Exclusive Addition" now for the 1300 that has a bunch of accessories and looks to clean house on the K1300 bike.

Could be a great time to snatch up a K1300!  Inlove

Agreed.

Given BMW's history with new model recalls, I don't know why anyone would be anxious to get a 1600. I'd let it bake for another year.

The only thing that worry's me is the scheduled maintenance cost, that's a lot of valves to check and a lot of tupperware to remove first.

Also agreed. I think I fall clearly into the demographic that BMW is targeting with the K1600 line but there is no way I'll be standing in line as an early adopter. I plan on watching closely as the new models roll out and see what the word on the street is after at least a year.

Also a major concern of mine. I'm used to doing all my own work on my bikes so I'll wait and see how "maintenance friendly" the new models are.

All that said, the K1600's are the first bike to grab my attention in the last two years and the first time I've ever been attracted to BMW.
