I don't normally post these types of things but after getting such a great bike at a good price, I just wanted to share.  I picked up this 2000 R1100RT in Omaha NB Columbus Day weekend.  I spotted it on IBMWR while sitting home recovering from rotator cuff surgery. (free time + Internet access = trouble) The ad read "near show-room condition" with 12K miles on the ODO.  I thought, "yeah right, nothing used is near show-room condition". Well the seller wasn't exaggerating, this thing is just about perfect.  I've cleaned once really good and only found two blemishes in the paint and one cracked screw hole from someone over-tightening.  Otherwise, it is nearly as perfect as a brand spanking new one sitting on a show-room floor.  I am extremely happy to have added this to the stable to replace my '98 that I started parting out about this time last year eh?.  Make that two years ago.  Headscratch

Congrats!  One of my all-time favorite bikes. IMO much better execution than the current model.

lol; well, maybe not by next year.  My riding habits have changed considerably over the past couple of years to a point that this RT may be the last ST bike I ever buy.  I am now down to averaging only about 18K miles per year. Splitting that between three bikes will keep the miles low on all of them.  I'm likely to get pretty close to an even split, so at about 6K/yr. this one should go another 30 years or so and I'm not likely to be doing much riding at 86; not on a 600+pound bike anyway.

I found another pic that I took with the small bags from an R1200C in place.

I'm interested in an older RT, what did you pay for it if you don't mind?

There are currently several 1100/1150RTs on IBMWR with miles varying from 22K to 65K for what looks to be fair pirces.  Be prepared to have to travel though as they are scattered all over the US.  I'll discuss with you the price I paid in the PM area.

Have to agree with you there; although that new K1600 GT and GTL are looking awfully sweet!   Wink

Can you let us know how your shoulder does on the RT?

I have some bad disks in my neck so I'm looking to move to an upright bike and the big fairing should help me too. Funny the other bike I was thinking of is the Cruiser. I bought a recumbent bicycle and can ride it pain free the R1200C with the high bars looks like the motorcycle equalvalent. Lol

My shoulder seems to be doing well on either bike right now.  The RT is a bit easier because I do not have to lift my arm above the shoulder to grip the bars like I do on the C.  That should change as I regain strength in the shoulder though.  As for upright or leaning back, since my back surgery 5 years ago (bi-level discectomy w/fusion from L3 to L5) I have become more comfortable leaning forward on the RT than leaning back on the cruiser.  I am even considering changing the cruiser over to the lower bars to lean me forward a bit to take pressure off the lower back.  I can't really tell you how this might translate to neck problems though.  There are ways using Mototechniques bar-backs to bring the RT bars back if the slight forward lean does not sit well with a bad neck.  There are even ways to modify those bar-backs to bring them even farther back than intended by Mototechniques.  I had the old RT set up that way for many years but as stated before, the slight forward lean suits me better now so I have the RT bars in factory original position.

All that said, don't let the power numbers on the cruiser scare you away as being a slouch.  It is simply amazing how well the R12 handles in the twisties compared to other cruisers.  It is designed as a cruiser however, and will never perform to the level of the RT without sginificant and expensive engine modifications.  Even then, it will not reach the level of the RT or any other sport or sport-touring bike for all out performance.  The one big thing the R12 has going for it that you may or may not like is it's uniqueness.  It normally draws a crowd of gawkers no matter where I go with it.

I've had many BMW cars before so it was time for a bike

03 R1150RT P version I traded for a 93 BMW 740iL

Although an X police bike it has seen TLC, new paint, and parts before I got it
The starter was failing, but I replaced that myself easily
also made a DIY manometer to sync the throttle bodies at home

I've worked on all my previous vehicles before so this RT is a no brainer to maintain

I'm so impressed with what BMW does with bikes
that I already have my sights on a K1200RS
