I've started a podcast devoted to dual sport & adventure riding, noticed there were none that really focused on it so I remedied that! The show will focus on all things dual sport and adventure, bikes, trips, gear, interviews with riders, reviews, news, etc.

Anyway, it's my first epi. so consider this a test flight but more shows are on the way, with interesting content on the line. It's for sure a collaborative medium, so feel free to throw ideas, comments and questions my way. It can't be too bad, it's free!

http://localnumber69.com/dualsportpodcast

You can listen online or download it there, and it will be available on Itunes in a day or so (just search for Dual Sport Podcast).

You can find the show on Facebook too.

Swingset,

Do you do any of the AMA dual-sport/adventure rides? I am thinking about getting either a pickup truck or trailer so that I can attend a few. I think there were two in Ohio last year.

Those rides might make good fodder for the podcast... I don't know if the 2011 schedule is out yet or not.

FWIW, R Doug and I could probably make it to Wayne National Forest (Woodsfield area) for some riding if you ever head that far east.

Yes, done many of the AMA rides in Ohio and WV. Good fun. There are also quite a few local orgs. that put on some great rides...mostly geared towards single-track/technical riding. That for sure will come up in future casts!

I would be down for some riding at WNF on the eastern side...I haven't ridden that particular portion before, so absolutely drop me a line and I'll meet up for some dirt. I have a hitch-hauler for my little bike just for such occasions.

I have an SUV that has a tow package and could rent a trailer from UHaul fairly cheaply to tow our bikes.  Also, I believe the wife is getting me an add-on oil cooler for the EXC this Christmas.  Plus, I now have luggage capacity for the EXC.  It'll be ready for longer trips soon.  That said, I'm not sure my ass could stand to be in that saddle very long.

Episode 3 is up, and we talk the suckiness of cold winters, tools, tires, gear, heated grips, how to be my BFF, and more nonsense! Thanks guys for listening and keeping all the questions coming!

Oh, and I was also a guest on fellow STN'ers Chris & James "The Pace Podcast" this week, so tune in to that too!

Swingset, can you post a link to the Harbor Freight brake bleeder you recommended in the last episode?

I have an addition to your "Penny Pincher" list.  My son is 2 years old now and more of his toys require assembly.  These kits usually have small wrenches in various sizes.  Another nice thing is that they are flat, lightweight and would work well in tight areas.  I started to collect them and store them in my tool kit.  I haven't used them on anything automotive yet but I'm sure they would be fine in a jam.

Great tip, I'll mention it.

HF sells two different bleeder kits, this is the one I have and everyone says is the best.

With the popular 20% coupon it's only $20....worth it's weight in gold.

BTW, Episode 6 is up and life. I answer some questions about boots, shorty MX style and we discuss self-defense/carry on a bike and some talk about a DS-Podcast ride in the spring/summer.

My feed is:
http://localnumber69.com/dualsportpodcast/feed.xml

Itunes (as it shows in the store) has accepted the podcast, but their approver hasn't listed it yet. This is an ongoing tug of war with their CS that hasn't been resolved, so for Itunes guys the best option right now is the RSS or download it manually and add to your library. Itunes sucks, btw.

After a week off, I got show number 7 done...

This week mrs. swingset joins me for some talk about 2-up riding, we cover physical fitness and its importance in dual sport riding, and Chris from The Pace Podcast calls in for some great advice on 2-up, communication systems, and all-day comfort for a long day in the saddle.

Looking forward to checking this out.  I've been listening to motorcycle podcasts for years but the number keeps dwindling down.  It'd be nice to have an alternative to Sidestand Up.  Their guests can be great, but the production comes off amateurish at times.

You said exactly why started this whole thing, in a nutshell...not only were some of my favorites disappearing, but no one did a dual sport-theme either....and I get super frustrated with Sidestand Up for the bad production. I make it a point of pride to have some better audio & editing.

Hope you enjoy it!

Good job so far. I started listening several weeks back and I am really enjoying it. From someone with no dirt experience what so ever I like the way things are headed with really covering some of the simple basics. Been riding on the street for several years now but have had a bit of a dual sport bug from the day I started, heck I took my MSF class on a Super Sherpa. I have not gotten around to buying a bike yet but have looked at several in the last 6 months.

Good market for them right now, I've been shopping around half-heartedly but I sure see some smoking deals. I keep saying I'll replace my TTR but it just won't die. hehe.

You're definitely in dual sport heaven, as areas go!

Hey Craig, I've listened to the first three shows and really enjoyed them.  Great production value and information.  I'm already learning quite a few things.  I'd love to hear some guests talk about their trips.  Maybe you could interview some of the epic posters from ADV or something.

Anyway, thanks for your unselfish contribution to the motorcycling community.    Thumbsup

I've been really trying to line up guests, but I'll tell ya it's been a nightmare getting people to follow through...thank god for Chris & James from the Pace...they've been super helpful I don't know how they do it. I've lined up over a half dozen guys so far only for them to back out or just fail to come through. It's been really frustrating, I'm still trying hard but it's a challenge. I had really hoped for some help or a cohost or someone to contribute regularly. I've had a few offers, but so far no one's taken the bait.

I'll do my best, thanks for the kind words I appreciate it.

Hey started listening and I like it  Thumbsup  PLEASE get it on itunes, it is a huge PITA to go and download it from your site and then transfer it to my ipod.  Okay not a huge PITA, but a pain none the less!  So much easier to subscribe and auto download/synch new episodes.

BTW, I'd be happy to be a guest, but my knowledge of dual sporting is mostly about crashing and my inability to judge how deep a puddle is!  But I do own two pretty damn good dual sports...

I really have no control over Itunes accepting it, for reasons they can't explain or won't tell me, it just never gets accepted. If you subscribe to the RSS feed through Itunes, you can download the episodes automatically and put them on your device. I haven't done it, but it sounds really straightforward.

BTW, you're welcome to call in, would love to talk bikes with ya...you don't need to be an expert, obviously I'm not! Bigsmile

Marc,

So to the show website, scroll to the bottom and click on RSS Feeds.  Copy the URL of that page.  Then open Itunes, click the "Advanced" tab, highlight "Subscribe to Podcast" and paste the RSS Feed URL into the pop up.  It will add the podcast to your list of shows that are automatically updated.

That would be a good segment.  Have Marc call in and talk about the differences about riding in the east vs. mid-west or the west.

Ha, I can sum it up much like skiing.  East=ROCKS for Dual Sporting and ICE for skiing.  Generally speaking of course  Lol  But I can offer a lot on starting out dual sporting after 20 years of street riding and absence from off roading as well as about getting your kids into riding, since both of mine now ride.

Sweet! I'm rolling your interview with local friend Brian from AtomicMoto right now.
I'm looking forward to the next episode that you mentioned. (RR through our area?).

Ss,
I am enjoying the show, makes my work day tolerable. Between The Pace, Sidestand Up, and your DS podcast (I am now listening to Rant-FU also), my work week just flies by. It does take me all week to listen to them with work interruptions.

Also, I am one of those F***tards who download it on iTunes. Wish I wasn't, but the building I am now in has very limited interwebs access, so for now they all go into my shuffle, and I am too cheap to buy a real MP3 player.  Twofinger

Keep up the good work!
