Hello every one...question.....
I want to put a very nice motorcycle for sale . If you were to be in the market for a 22 yr old bike, what would you be looking for ? Running of course  but maybe the price. Does one sell Blue book or higher for the condition of an originol owner ?

Any input would be helpful . This won't be easy for me !     Sad Thanks Mike

NADAguides has vintage motorcycle prices online at http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-23-0-5600-665-657-50592&l=1&w=23&p=38&f=5693&gc=am>c=mc

there is also a little yellow book that they sell (or give away at the end of each year).  it's the paper version of the vintage guide.

you could also consider finding a local vintage motorcycle club that is more familiar with checking the condition of the bike and estimating a price.  the paper version of the little yellow book lists about 30 clubs that they used for reference in coming up with the estimated prices.

good luck..

A v-4 honda of some kind. They're one of the few bikes from the 80's that still make me drool.  Inlove

I still have my 83 VF750F (red and white) which I bought new.  When I bought my 99VFR 2 years ago, my oldest son took "possession" of the VF.  He wants to sell it and we will post pictures in the for sale threads in the next day or so.

What to look for in an old bike?  One owner,  dealer serviced, low mileage per year, few mods, no racing/beatings, no crashes or drops.

So I checked back for records of service , 1 in '98 for front fork seal re-do . The rest are my valve adjustments/oil-coolant changes/tire changes etc. in the garage.....I know its my word only but ,
the bike never needed anything . At 23k for a near perfect motorcycle ,  should I pay a mechanic for an inspection........and have report ready for the buyer ?  I realize you'all are experianced riders & see it differently than the average CLASSIFIED buyer .

Thanks Mike R.

wow.  I love how dry desert air preserves machinery...

With lots of pictures like that and a little care in the write up, it should be a question of how many thousands of $ you get.

IMO, bikes reach a certain point in their existence when they start to appreciate, instead of steadily depreciating.

Keep in mind that these older bikes will generally only appeal to someone who is looking for the specific model/year mostly for nostalgia reasons.

That is one beautiful machine and I don't think you'd have a problem starting at ~$3k for it and just see where the market takes it.  I'd imagine there are some VFR boards around that you could monitor, as well as cycletrader and fleBay to use a references.

As a reference, I just paid $2K for an '82 CB900F in what looks like comparable condition.  A coworker of mine, about a year ago, paid ~$3k for an '81 VFR that he really wanted. Again, we both knew what bikes we wanted and seeked them out and paid top price for these bikes. But, they were in great condition for being 20+ years old.

Bootiful!!!

Don't sell that if you can help it.  That's destined to be a classic.  Oh, and I think you'll get top dollar compared to similar bikes sold.

You need to get a picture of yours parked next to one of the new "commemorative" models with the similar paint scheme.   Wink

HEY !!!! This is the reply I didn't need !!!! I m having sellers remorse already !!
Seriously I cant do the VF justice by letting it sit in the garage . My 17 yr old doesn't want it.....so It has to go a rider who cares .

Waiting for registration & going on sale on another STN forum
Parking in a COOL/DRY/UV free enviorment retains that youthful look .

Anybody have this same bike ?  Thank yall for the help .

Thanks, Mike R.

Bigok I have seen the bike and have ridden it. It accelerates faster/harder than the newer ones.  Thumbsup   I suspect the 0-60 times are quicker than the newer ones, as well.
