Where to stay in the Black Hills

 I have been to the Black Hills twice before, but both times camping. Next year, I plan on going in June, but my riding friend doesn't camp, so I'm looking for a motel or cabin, preferably around Hill City but willing to go up to Sturgis/ Deadwood area. Looking for the usual stuff, clean reasonable rates, secure parking for the bikes. Also would prefer a mom and pop place over a chain. We will also need to eat so any suggestions would be helpful, although we could always eat every night at the alpine hotel. Thanks in advance.

the missus and I stayed at the Harney Peak Motel in Hill City a couple of years ago. Great place. Very small mom and pop establishment only six rooms. The rooms are not modern and not large but they were very clean and neat and prices that were much lower than the nearby motel 6. Located right on main street within walking distance of eateries and such. The owners ride and are very motorcycle friendly.

Hill City has some nice places, but being from the Denver area I tend to stay in Custer when I spend a few days riding up there.
Lots of choices in rooms too for all budgets, and a good selection of restaurants.

We stayed at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park a couple summers ago. It was a nice place and the scenery and roads were great!

Probably get better rates if you stay in Rapid, but not as nice as hill city or custer. For lunch stop at the Sugar Shack on 385 (4 miles N. of the intersection of 44) best burgers anywhere!!.

Except for the location and dining options,   , the Bell Motor Lodge in Spearfish has what you're looking for.

    I can second on the Harney Peak Inn.  They used to be a first come basis only with only 6 rooms, no reservations.  Check out Spearfish, and Hot Springs also.

 Thanks guys. This gives me a good list. Not plannig on making reservations so I hope to get into one of these. Harney Peak and the game lodge sound real good. Thanks again.

 And the sugar shack is on the list of places to eat, along with the Alpine house of course

I like the Budget Host Motel in Hot Springs, stayed there several many times.  Few miles south of Custer State Park.  Mom and Pop, is modern and secure.

Look at Horsethief Lodge just outside Hill City. Cabins, pool, etc.
