Has any body here ever dug into the lower side of a 2000 R6 motor to change an oil pump?

We just picked up a 2000 R6 race bike and upon closer inspection at home the shaft from the gear that drives the oil pump, and in turn the water pump, is broken. We’ve got clear access to the oil pump,  but the chain that drives it is holding it up and in place. Our next step is removing the clutch basket. Were hoping that that gives us better access.

Constructive thoughts or suggestions appreciated.  And no, there isn’t much help from the shop manual.
