Charlie (CheddarHead) showed up at my place about 11am today. From here we cruised over to my brother's house to pick up my trailer in my van. We rolled down to Mt. Airy, MD where we had a fan-freaking-tastic sausage, roasted red pepper and red onion pizza with sides and soft drinks. Then we met up with the seller of Charlie's new bike. Charlie took it for a spin for a little while, then upon return to the seller's house agreed to buy the bike. I loaded it up while Charlie and Tim (the seller) went inside to do the paper work. We then drove back to my place where the new CheddarMachine will cohabitate with my Guzzi until Charlie and I can figure out how best to get it up to Boston for him.  Thumbsup He got a kickin' deal on this pristine and perfect F650-GS.  Thumbsup Thumbsup

Charlie looking over the bike and getting ready to mount up for a test ride in the twisties of Mt. Airy, ice and all.

Yes, its an '03 with 965 miles on it. No kidding.

Nice bike!  Congrats! Thumbsup

A 2003 with 965 miles?!?!  Why did Tim hate his bike so much?  That is torture!  Great find, btw.

Best way to get it to Boston? Ride it? Just a thought. If that doesn't work I heard of a nice garage in York that will keep that pretty bike warm and dry. I will even talk nice to it - I promise.   Just leave it and the key...  Bigsmile

Nice bike.

With the understanding that I don't know Mt. Airy at all, it was right "in town", a place in the group of stores and shops, and about a block from the bicycle shop (that the seller, Tim, owns). Laurienzo Brick Oven Pizza (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Laurienzo-Brick-Oven-Cafe/117100121643180)

Woo, red thumper F650GS!  Inlove Inlove Inlove

I feel morally obligated to mention that when my intake manifold tore and I complained about it to my local BMW shop, they suggested that perhaps the rubber had gotten too hard while sitting (mine was a 2001, bought in 2006, with 5000 miles -- I'm assuming a 2003 bought in 2010 with 1000 miles has also been sitting Wink ).

While clearly my particular Beemer was (is) cursed , I just wanted to mention it in case this one also starts acting like a bucking bronco.  Very easy to fix, luckily.

Yes, its an '03 with 965 miles on it. No kidding.

Over a dozen posts...time to weigh in.

It is/was a smokin' deal, to be sure!  Definitely different from the ST, as well...which is what I wanted...a different ride experience for my "away" bike.

The pizza was really good, too

Cheddar,
You buy a round the world GS and can't ride it to Boston Headscratch

Very nice find. Good luck with it.
.

LOL.  No, the issue is / was that I didn't have my riding gear...at least, not all of it, (no riding pants or boots, no gerbings (brrrr....and no fairings to hide behind in the 30 degree breeze) etc...and what little gear I had was not enough to do anything more than a test ride...which, by the way, took of 5 of the 965 miles as shown on the odometer.   Lol

Wife doesn't know yet, huh?   Lol  Nice score! Congrats

Too funny!  No...this is the bike I've been looking for since I moved to Boston in August.  What began as a search for an SV morphed into a search for a Wee...which became the baby GS Thumper.  I could have / would have waited until March to pick it up, but the seller was a touch impatient and I wanted to inspect the bike before laying out $$$.

One last thing...I want to publicly "shout out" for Chris.  We'd never met before Saturday....never even spoken on the phone.  We were "complete" strangers...except within the ST-N community.  When I was researching the bike (I'd found it listed on ADV Rider...) I knew only that he was "in the area" somewhat...and took the liberty of asking if he'd be willing to go inspect the bike on my behalf, if it came down to it.  He quickly volunteered to do that, and lots more...offered a room if I need to overnight...to retrieve the bike and store it, etc, etc, etc.  Truly the best of what you could hope to see in folk!  Thanks again, Chris!  Lots of good karma headed your way...and I have still more good deeds to "pay it forward" on.

Sounds like a good deal all the way around, props to Chris for helping out. What I would do is find a Ryder or similar truck rental, rent the smallest (cheapest) box van I could find and drive down and pick it up.
