Hi, Perry! (I scored you!!)

Chaz headed south (some conference for work), and I headed back to Baltimore. Passed through a debris deposit area from the NC tornadoes on 117, between 40 and 95. Big wadded pieces of aluminum sheet roofing and other pieces. Looked like a giant's handful of wadded candy wrappers and trash.

It was scary watching the Spotwalla and the weatherchannel at the same time. Big scary badweather blobs. A LOT of folks just bailed on their planned routes and headed for Wilmington and safety. Some even gave up and went home instead of coming to Wilmington.

Very cool to be scored by you....  I did not see "LionLady" on your name tag!

Yes....I was one of the many who bailed on my planned route.... Glad I did and finally put that mess behind.  Thought I had seen the end of the weather on my ride home but I ended up travelling through a Wind Travel Advisory in Michigan (very strong gusty winds but not nearly as intense as the storms south during the rally) and snow in Ontario.

I didn't realize that Mother Nature had a part in the planning this rally.  Man, I guess she can throw in a few curves... eh?

For the CapeFear, heavy rain is a given for pretty much ALL the riders at some point in their rides. Some get hit worse than others, depending on the luck of their planned rides and the whims of mother nature. Last year, a handful got nailed by severe storms that included hail in addition to strong winds.

On Saturday, guitardad had his gas mileage cut by about 20% battling strong headwinds on the final leg to Wilmington. Some dolt (rally-er) ran out of gas WITHIN SIGHT OF A GAS STATION and had the audacity to flag him down on the highway. Since the rules say all riders must give aid if a fellow is injured or in danger, he stopped. The guy wasn't in danger or hurt, just SOL.  Mad2

To add insult, a gust of wind blew guitardad's bike over as he was returning to get underway.

If I remember right, the rules don't require a stop for someone out of gas. At least, the Mason-Dixon rules exclude that one.

I'd never flag another rally rider down under those conditions. On the other hand, I can't imagine not stopping to help either, whether during a rally or not. In fact, I have done that during a rally. The other rider said he was fine and sent me back on my ride.

Bigok to Chaz for helping him out. I hope Clifford the Big Red Bike wasn't hurt in the blow over.

Yeah, those are the rules for all the rallies. Unfortunately, if someone waves their arms at you as you're riding toward them at 65mph, you assume they've got a serious problem. He didn't.  Rolleyes And, yeah, I would never flag another rally-er down because I made a dumb@ss mistake.

Heard during dinner that Dumbass got a ride from a state trooper to and from the gas station. He placed 28th, so at least he didn't profit from it. If he runs the Cape Fear again, he'll be in Jim Bain's sights.  Clifford is pretty badly scratched on the left side. Heavy wind gusts + the top case + aux tank + possibly short/bent side stand that added up to the tipover.

Yeah, scratched up sidecase and a pretty good gouge on the left side fairing, right at the "tip" that sticks out about handlebar high.  I've got touch-up paint, but I'm thinking this winter may be time for a complete repaint.  Imola Red FTW! Beerchug  As for dumba$$, he was definitely flagging us down for all he was worth. A rider on a solver ST1300 stopped, too, becasue he saw my bike on its side.  I tod him I was OK, but he helped me pick it up anyway.  Thanks!!!!!!!

Learned two things:  Next time I won't wait around to try to explain WHY I'm not riding down to the gas station to bring him back some gas   Twofinger  AND, I'm going to figure out how to lighten the load for the next rally.  Start with a tiny travel-size toiletry kit and a netbook to replace the laptop.
