Too bad the maps have to download in real time.  It doesn't work outside of the 3G network ---> buzzkill.

I'll have to wait on this one I think.

My DROID comes with free GPS. Bigsmile  Turn by turn, works in conjuction with phone calls, voice activated.
As you noted,  the holy grail for hand held devices seems to be for downloadable maps.  Let me know if you find any. Bigsmile

Maybe the manufacturers are holding back so they don't take away from their own device sales.  I'd still prefer my Zumo during longer trips.  No loading and waterproof.

there are certainly time that a swiss army knife of leatherman multitool is just what you need.

there are other instances in which they are very poor substitutes for a purpose built tool.

When riding my bike, thus far, nothing approaches a GPS for usibility.

yep, been there done that. And lost/ got lost.
Have a nice cradle made for my Palm Pre (spint voice nav + all goodies) mounted on the bar and powered by USB from my electrified tank bag.
The experiment surely worked.
My last few rides were fraught with issues. No cell/data coverage - screwed!
USB power cable went TU - screwed!
Anyway broke down and bought the Z660 and wiring it all up now.  Thumbsup

I might pick this one up.  I've tried a few GPS apps the latest one being Co-Pilot USA and I've been thoroughly underwhelmed by all of them.  I actually use the Google Maps more than any of the nav apps I've used.  The only advantage the Nav apps had so far is preloaded maps which is good when I have no cell signal.

My Zumo is about to go to Garmin because the touch screen stopped working but I've liked it the most.
