OK guys, I am looking at putting on some serious miles this year and I want to install XM Radio on my FJR with helmet speakers. Preferably with blue tooth.

I am looking for suggested installations, and applications...

Thanks!

you can get a zumo 660 and an interphone f4. The Zumo can be had on ebay new from Abes of Maine for about $565 and the interphone F4 for 150. Both no tax or ship.

or get a cheap xm receiver and a BT transmitter and the interphone F4 headset.

Zumo 660 is BT, but not XM capable.  Gotta go whole hog and get the 665 for it.  There are several BT headset options.  Sena makes one, Scala Rider has a couple options and Blue Ant has one.  I just picked up a Sena for my summer of riding.

My Garmin 2820 with the XM "puck" works great. Using an old Hondaline CB/intercom system to play the audio in the helmet (J&M type unit). I have ~$300 in the whole setup Smile

Pete, I'm using a XM recever from Harley. It is pricey at $250.00 but i got it for $190.00 through a friend that works for HD.

It's water proof and it has large buttons that can be easily operated with gloves. Also the display is large and is easy to see at night.

The 450 has an mp3 player so when i want to listen to that i have a switch on the shelve so i can switch the input to the J&M.

I bought a xm radio for 60 bucks.  mounted it on the bike and use headphones.  I also listen to internet radio through my droid and use the chatterbox xbi.  I have been using the xbi for two years and love it.  The only thing with the xbi is the batteries only last about 8 hours.  So if you do not bring regular headphones, you are with out music for the last couple hours of riding.

I have used the xm radio with wired headphones for all day music and then link the xbi to the phone so that I can chat on the phone while riding.  With the xbi on stand by for the phone, it will last a day or two.  I would think that you could also get the bluetooth adaptor for a cheap xm radio.  As far as water goes, I just put a zip lock baggy over the xm radio in the rain.  I have done this for years with out a problem.

Being a gadget freak, I have multiple set ups for different occasions; LD rides, road trips, day rides, etc. In a nutshell, for LD rides, I use my Zumo 550 loaded with 4gigs of mp3s along with a GMX30 sat radio receiver/antenna. I use a pair of Etymotic ER6I earbuds connected to an Amplirider audio mixer. The Amplirider works amazing, and the Etymotics are very comfortable even after wearing them for 24hrs straight.

Along with the Zumo/GMX30, the Amplirider also allows me to hear my radar detector and ipod (for even more music and audio books) without plugging/unplugging anything, or switching anything.

For an quick Amplrider review, see here.

If you're planning on doing a lot of miles, or traveling multiple days, I'd recommend skipping the bluetooth and just plug in directly to good earphones. Etymotic ER6 or Umlimate Ears UE700s are good choices for size and sound. Helmet speakers are mediocre  at best, and earphones also act as hearing protection.

I also use XM though a Garmin GPS. I have a stereo extension permanently routed under the tank, coming up between tank and seat. The headphone cable is long enough to extend below the jacket and plug in easily. This has worked great for more than 30k miles of riding.
