I've ridden a couple of Visions and really like them but:

1/ The Harley Eglide is much smoother.  The moment you start moving, all the vibes disappear.  Not so with the Victory.
2/ The Victory, for me, has a way too loud gear whine.  Almost drowns out the stock pipes.  The Harley's motor is much quieter so the can make the stock pipes louder.
3/ The Visions much longer tiller like handlebars make it harder to control and parking lot speeds.  The Harley is a doddle.

The Vision, though, has maybe the comfiest seat and roomiest riding position I've ever experienced.

Harleys are great bikes. I ride my Ultra Classic more than my sport tourer (K1100RS).

I guess I have to test a current Road King.  The previous two rentals I had were kinda meh.  No suspension, mushy brakes, beveled crash bars, etc.

Japanese Cruiser prices have come up a lot, Harley's are competitive by comparisson.

It seems like a nice plan, but most likely the policy is dictated by thier insurance company so all you will do is piss them off, and charma is a bitch Wink

If the test ride policy is a result of the insurance policy, perhaps they should call up the insurance company and tell them that they are losing sales, and if they insurance company can't change their policy, then the dealer might have to change their policy.

If the dealer doesn't know that they are losing sales to dealers that DO allow test rides, they might not figure it out on their own until they are in serious financial troubles, and by then it might be too late for the company.

Sorry, I got a little off topic, but I hope I answered your question, and that we all learned something about butterflies in the process.

I don't know why anyone would want to be a dealer, there has to be a better way to make a living. I have a friend who is a Yamaha Dealer and I know the Honda dealer fairly well too. You can't believe the crap the have to put up with. Either will let me take a bike for the day but won't allow a stranger a test ride?

Japanese cruisers are nice, but what's with the plastic chrome and bolt-on cooling fins?

I hadn't ridden a Harley Bagger since 2007 I think.  The new frame is much better. The Road King felt great in the corners.

How was the heat from the engine?  The last eglide I rented was a roaster, even though it was only in the mid 60s - low 70s.

I didn't notice any but it was low 60s that day.  I've heard that the new catalytic converter puts out heat though and you'll feel it it warmer temps.  The fix is of course the stage 1 ugrade with new header pipes (Vance and Hines..etc), removing the cat, aftermarket air cleaner, and a tune...$1500.
