Hi all, come spring I'm going to attempt an Ironbutt Bunburner Gold (1500 miles in under 24hrs) and I'll be leaving from central PA and most probably heading to Rapid City SD. I'm spending my long cold winter days planning the attempt and this is best place to ask so here I go...

I'm thinking of pushing off in early May. At that time of year, the weather is already fairly warm here so I'm wondering what the weather is like in your neck of the woods at this time - day & night time temps? Severe weather to worry about (storms, tornados, etc)? Thanks for any input! FWIW, I also posted this in Region 4. Thanks again!

Well, it's May, there could still be some potentially cold air coming down from our friends in CA, and nights on the plains can be cold. I think as long as you have heated gear, then no worries - nothing wears you out quite like being cold for hours on end. Do you have your route laid out yet? Can get some more specific advise if you do Smile

Will be quite the challenge on an RC51 - best of luck.

Thanks for the info Justin, appreciated... I guess I'll be bringing the Gerbings along. And yes, it WILL be a challenge on my 51, not so much comfort-wise, I'm used to it, but the measly 120 mile tank range and the resulting frequent gas stops are gonna cut some serious time off the clock!

Colorado- Northern to Central... MAY....probably 65-70 day 40s evening - Strong winds likely in plains.

Colorado Mountains: Daytime 10-50, Chance of snow 30%ish -  Night temps 0-20 -- It gets COLD in the mountains up until July. We had a rally in late june and frost covered the bikes in the morning.

Colorado Southern - Daytime 65-80 evening temps in 30-40s -

If you go through Colorado - Check the weather OFTEN-- like every gas stop through the state. There is an expression that people use in Colorado "Don't Like the Weather?! Wait 5 Minutes."
I have seen it go from Sunny to thunderstorm to Hail to Sunny in less than an hour. Its even worse in the mountains....I've driven through bright sunshine-thundersnow in the summertime.
