Mostly I ignore all the bike bashing . Even if directed at my bike i just don't give a shit.

But a comment in another thread had my wonder just what the wet weight was for an FJR vs. an ST1300.

The FJR is listed as 644lbs.  The ST at 730lbs

So why does the FJR get peoples panties in such a knot? Or have I just not been around enough to know the in joke?

Eh, everyone is just jealous of those of us lucky enough to ride the "Sport Tourer of the Decade".   You know, like back in high school when some kid showed up with a really nice hopped up ride and all the other kids were jealous so they called it a piece of crap?   Yeah, like that.

I have never denigrated the FJR...I am consistent in lauding the FJR as a fine touring bike.  And has a mighty fine electrically powered windscreen.   And no, not a figment of my imagination,  the XX is in my garage out of the snow as we speak...many on here have seen my Blackbird....it has traveled many miles.

Every time I ride mine, I think how much better it would be if under the same plastic were an 800 cc engine with 95 hp and 150 lbs less weight.  It would still be ugly, but it would be just as good for touring and more fun in the twisties.

Too heavy, too hot and too small. Anything that comes with hard bags mounted does not have sport in mind regardless of what label you hang on it. It's a small touring bike. However ride whatever you like. That's why they make different models.

What county posted is, in fact what he has been saying all along. That being that he considers the FJR to be a touring bike. He bases that on the weight (it is porky), and the electric windscreen. What he ignores is the classification of the FJR as a sport touring bike by the experts in the field, and that the windscreen is adjustable precisely to fulfill it's intermediate role. Touring bikes and sport bikes generally have fixed windscreens so.......

Nevermind. County is a troll.

I have an FJR, after 65k miles in three years, I have found that it was not for me.

Nothing wrong with the FJR, I just have a hard time telling the difference from legal speed and go to jail speed, Just tooo dam smooth. (leg room ain't too good either)

I doubt there is a better bike for Rally riding than an FJR, all things being considered..

This thread is getting like PO, somebody has an opinion about the FJR that ruffles the feathers of the FJR people and right away they start with the denigration of the posters.

All I have ever said about the FJR has to do with its accoutrements and weight...nobody is calling your wife fat, just your bike.

I had a 2007 FJR and loved it. It was a great bike. Ran like a bat out of hell, rode good, handled good. Only reason I got rid of it was that I wanted to go back to something more sporty and lighter. I went with a CBR600RR, but I do miss the FJR. It was great for long trips. Awesome machine, but getting a little dated passed up by other ST machines now.

Never liked that bike from the moment I saw it.  I can't really explain why.  I just look at it as a whole and I can't find anything about it that really appeals to me.

I'm sure it performs amazingly well as owners never seem to be able to give it enough praise, but I don't like 'em. Hurl

It's strange with art and machines and any sort of object, I don't have to study it too much.  I generally know in the first 5 seconds if I like it or not.

Funny thing about the FJR is I can't pick any one thing that destroys the experience for me.  It's like a bad sum-of-the-parts effect or something.  I can't describe it.  The only thing that comes to mind when I look at it is "boat."  It strikes me as a boat and I don't know why.  It's not that big.  Maybe it looks like a sailboat to me or something, I really don't know.

Now that Ducati ST2 that was posted above...that's a pretty machine. Drool

The FJR is a pipe and slippers bike. A really really fast pipe and slippers bike Smile

I think of the FJR as the bike I want to ride to the turns and then have fun in the turns, with the twisty roads being to reason for the ride. With a good rider the FJR will easily hang with almost any group on the straights and thru the turns. I have not been on an STN ride where I could not keep up with the fast group. On a 3 day weekend I may ride 400 miles to get to the mtns and then 600-700+ miles of twisty. It allows fun 600 mile day trips to the mountains and back.

FJR haters are typically trolls :pokestick:, ignorant of the bike's abilities Headscratch, or are projecting insecurity couch and blame doubts about their own ability to ride well on the bike.

That's why I ride a feej also. I have 100's of miles of riding to get to the roads I want to ride. I use to do it on my VFR but found myself being really aggressive (and getting tickets) because basically, my back was killing me.

I don't put on risers and all that stuff, to each their own. And the feej has such a great suspension, it's easy to ride the wheels off of it once you get to the twistems.

Never a worry about 2 up duty either, with tent, bags, etc etc.

You know what they say, "there's no better way to see the country then on a motorcycle..."

I don't hate the FJR. It was on the short list in '04. Until I spent a day on one. 'Bout 300 miles told me it was not what I sought in the next bike. It was hot, cramped and clumsy. Conversely I bought the Tuono via phone,'net and fax. Didn't ride it,hell even see it until it was actually mine. 80K miles later it's still the bike for me. There's something to that different strokes saying.

It really just depends on what forum you are viewing that determines who gets sh!t on. Ride what you want. Personal taste is just that. I do find it interesting that some people know exactly what bike suits them without even seeing one in person, let alone riding it.

And yes, I'm an old fart that likes my FJR.

I love my FJR Stratotanker. It's my Iron Butt ride, and I do prefer something smaller around town. For the most part, I commute on my KLR and go out of town on my FJR. There's nothing to hate about it... It's a fantastic bike but, as Andrew said, it's easy to loose track of how fast you're going and find yourself talking to a cop about three digit numbers without even trying.

By the same token, I'd like an in between bike... like an old GSXR750 or something. Something low brow, low cost, low worry, hooligan fun.

That's why they purchase pseudo-sport bikes like the FJR. Single guys buy a real sporting bike and use the bitch perch for camping gear.  Twofinger

Two big dudes, both over 6' and 200-lbs, were unable to roll
FJR1300AE with dead ignition up the ramp into an U-Haul. It
was like rolling a big boulder uphill. The bike was way too top
heavy. We rolled it back down, and called a flatbed tow truck
as we didn't want to risk seeing the bike capsize onto ground.

It actually would've been easier to push a 700-lb cruiser up the
ramp as the weight is decentralized with a lower COG.

Not to say that FJRs are unreliable as early models had ignition
issues repaired under warranty. It's just to point out that they
are heavy motorcycles.

Fixed that for you.

I don't have FJRs.

Heck, I practically ride an FJR, except my bike is lighter, less powerful, and the windscreen is aftermarket and requires manual intervention to adjust...

Ok, it's not really like an FJR at all.

Nothing wrong with FJRs.  I bet I'd enjoy riding one.

Actually, the only bikes I've ridden that I really didn't like were the Victory Vegas (numb front end and inadequate brakes), the Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic (just not my thing), and whatever the CF Moto thing I rode was.

Funny, isn't it. Here in Australia it's regarded as a bike that will keep most sportsbikes honest in the twisties, a supreme mile-muncher (or kilometre- ..... can't think of it) with an engine that still has a lot of mongrel left in it if you give it stick. When I had my Yamaha Diversion XJ900S, I wanted one so much I could almost taste it. Then the opportunity came up to buy an R1150RT at a price too good to refuse, so ...

I gotta LMAO on this one! You guys that talk about the FJR being heavy, clumsy, portly etc... Wait a minute...let me laugh again. I came from a Honda Valkyrie...6 cyl, wide as texas, portly...well u bet! We ride the twisties every chance we get and I often got remarks from many of the ST riders that they were suprized to see the Valk keeping up with the aggresive pace in the twisties. Of course there were other  riders up there that I couldn't keep up with on the Valk. The point though certainly isn't about my riding abilities b/c I'm sure there are plenty of guys that can blow the socks off of me. The point is... that when I first rode the FJR it felt like a bicycle compared to the Valk. It still feels light, relatively flickable, and agile to me. For those that dislike it for whatever other resons...I understand...to each his own.  I certainly can't relate to all the heavy, clumsy, portly nonsense though, that I read from FJR bashers. The FJR is quick, responsive, agile and comfortable for long hauls. Hell, I like having a little substance under me on long hauls, along with a few accouterments.

damn RR's  they keep losing air in the tires,  must be because they're such a "High Pressure" riding experience.

How are the one's on your FJR?   You put a car tire on the rear yet, I hear they don't affect the handling at all and  get great mileage.   Twofinger

To the OP, don't listen to the haters.  No bike is going to be perfect, you just have to find the one that fits you best.  My FJR has a few things that could be improved on.  With having said that, it's still the best all around bike i've owned.

For a late 50's guy who's been riding for 40+ years I love mine.  It's comfortable enough for all day rides, Fast enough to keep me entertained, and handles anything I can throw at it with grace.

While I'd love a sport bike , they are just too hard on my old carcass for a day of riding.  Full on Touring bikes ( like my HD) are just to porky for real fun, but they have their purpose.

I've owned BMW's, Honda's and Harley's .. so far  I enjoy the FJR the most... Although if Motus takes off I may add one to the Garage.

There are two types of people who bash the FJR...

1) GSXR/CBR/ZX/YZF riders who ride like little girls and can't take a turn over 20 MPH, and got passed by one on the outside.
